City/Town: Rapperswil

Location: Rappi Bier Factory, Schönbodenstrass 3
Price: Free entry

.... and here is the second of the infamous Rappi Bier Factory all day Ploughmans lunches for this year.

If you haven't been before, the Rappi Bier Factory brews just about the best beer in Switzerland (and officially the best Black Bier in the whole of Europe).

The British Cheese Centre will bring along up to 15 farm made British Cheeses to complete the ultimate Ploughmans Lunch, cheese with salad, pickle, chutney, crusty bread etc. The spectacular Chilli Pickled Eggs may also make a comeback and there will no doubt be some sweet offering too.

Price of the lunch is CHF 19.00 but you can come just for the beer or a small cheese tasting plate. Beer and cheese is of course on sale to take home.

Here's the thread from the first one last year, only 60 signed up from here but we had over 100 in all, this year we will be better prepared for the rush. There's also some great photos of the mid summer one here that did get rather wet...... but we did enjoy ourselves anyway. (thanks weejeem for the pics)

There are 2 more for this summer on the 28th May and 17th September, I wonder how many of you will go for the Hat Trick?

GG,

My guest is a big prosecco drinker. Do you think you could gently persuade the brewery to put a couple of bottles on ice for us tomorrow? Thank you.
Right, next time 6 then?

A-ha.....I think I was a victim of one of your shriek's...;-) We had a brief convo re. the wasp situation when I asked if you wanted to sit down at our table. We were sat near the door, myself, hubby and two kids.

I/we can only re-iterate what has been said before. We had a lovely day and I literally stuffed myself with the lovely lunch and a couple of glasses of prosecco, so rolled home afterwards! Bought some of the delicious chutney so looking forward to devouring that some time.

Had a nice wee chat with Kittster who was telling me about Becca, such a tragic end to a young life and really lovely to see the forum paying tribute to her today in the way they did. I thought the band was great, a wee bit loud at the beginning nevertheless, really, really good. The girl singing had a cracking voice. A nice touch also was the wee cakes that the kiddies were giving out.

Has it ever been suggested that member's wear a name badge at EF events, if they so chose? Personally I would love it if folk did that as it would make it easier for members to identify one another, n'est pas? Maybe it's just my curious nature, but I found myself looking around the crowd today trying to figure out who is who, which in the absence of an introduction is pretty much a futile excercise....

Thanks anyway to the organiser's for a great day - we really enjoyed it and hope to take part in another EF event soon.
The thing is, this is not actually an EF event but a BCC/Bier Factory event that also happens to be advertised on EF. I guess only a third of people there yesterday were from the EF and of those probably half don't like to be identified for one reason or another . Next time, come and ask me and I will introduce you to those who are happy to be ID'd.

So, glad everyone enjoyed themselves, I got a lot of help from JLF as a top sassy waitress, she never paused for breath, and for cmirsky and Mrs cmirsky who prepared salads and plates, clare-jane and kids for cutting bread, collecting plates and washing up and for Kittster, Argus and Nanda for doing their bit and earning lunch. I'm sure I've missed some of you, so apologies, it was all a bit of a blur.

Next time, I will try to eat something myself, all I managed was a box of Crumbs' excellent redcurrant cup cakes at the end.

Quite a few people commented that they felt the presence of Begga, indeed, I was not alone in needing to do a double take each time a blond lass walked by to check that it wasn't actually her. There was no sadness apart from near the end when a few moist hugs were shared amongst her friends. We served nutty chocolate cake with cherry tomatos' for free, Beggas creation last year, suggesting that a donation should be made.... I don't know how much was raised, but you were clearly very generous. Thank you!

As ever, the beer was fantastic. Hope to see you at the next one.

Re: The second Rappi Bier Ploughmans of 2011

It was a nice outing, comfortable numbers--not too crowded, not too noisy--the band was loud but there were less noisy corners, a little swing for 5 kiddies and great service. I did not know you were all EF members, so 'Grüezi Mitenand' and 'Danke Vielmol'.

Begga moment: Little Cutie picked up a huge, indescribable what-looks-like-a-biscuit, nibbled at the horns (?) and dropped it on his daddy's wallet.

Had a lovely day yesterday, if slightly busy but it was good to be useful on this occasion. The kids did us proud and really helped out on the washing up front. Thanks to Kittster and Nanda for taking over so they got a little playtime as well. They enjoyed walking the cupcakes round, I wonder why!

Was nice to meet some new faces and plenty that I didn't get to meet. I didn't take many pics but most importantly got the 'Begga Brownie'

I didn't do much so I paid for my lunch like every good Swiss resident.
Didn't know you were starving or I'd have insisted you eat a Love-Begga cookie. Am sorry I forgot to do a takeaway of the Begga brownies.

Thanks, guys, for remembering Begga, organizing things, keeping the whole atmosphere the way she would have liked it something tells me.

Lovely crowd, as always. Sorry about my untimely arrival and departure, in fact, I still managed to meet again people I know already and put more faces to avatars and nicks, lovely!

Thanks for the ride to the station, Nicks, your baby is fab (the entire fambli).

I left early, still got home at 1am, jaysus. It's far as f##k. Trains were packed with soccer gangs, ay.

I had a piece of somebody's cookie, and honestly, divine!

Rappi beer is fantastic, by the way.

A lovely element of the Rappi Ploughmans lunches is you can plonk yourself down on a bench amongst a group of people you don't know and they'll happily shift along and be inclusive. That doesn't happen enough in Switzerland. Name badges would be admin. Easier just to say "Move along fatty. What's your name?"

Junior is the coolest baby.

Thanks to all who made yesterday a lovely day and night out. As GG said; there were moments where Begga was in the corner of my vision, but on looking it wasn't her. Spooky Icelandic spirits manifesting themselves.

I can't get enough of the fantastic beer there. As consumers we ought to press bars and restaurants to supply quality, locally produced beers such as Steve's rather than the bland crap we're offered in places where they're happy to serve CHF400 bottles of wine but cheapo beer.

Congratulations to Steve and his team - including their rascally new British / Ticinese bar man - for being gracious hosts, and letting me rob off with a previously stolen umbrella. (Umbrellas are like relationships: you win some, you lose some...)

Cupcakes with mascarpone and redcurrents were fab, the weird Viking cookies fab, the cheese fab, the company very fab. Thanks all.

Someone with an Audi will find a beer glass in the drivers seatback magazine holder thingy. It's probably empty.

Peace and love

No problem, it looked adorable and attention grabbing. Very strategic!

That was just Little Cutie's way of getting his daddy to contribute to Begga's collection, without realizing it.

Thanks for organising, Grumpy. Another fantastic day/evening out. Thanks also to your great team of helpers and Angela and Argus for those delicious cookies.

Glad you liked the cupcakes. I've posted the recipe here, as a few people asked me to yesterday.

So nice to put more faces to names and the wonderful company just made it all perfect.

Great evening.

Shame about the cheese.

And the drink to be honest.

The company wasn't too hot either and did you see those cupcakes?

Come to think of it; it sucked big time really.

.....like whatever, I vote SVP, so whaddya all care anyway?

(And just being me for a second, it was all good and Grumpy and the crew rocked!)
