MICHAEL SMILEY was formerly a House Music DJ and some of his humour is derived from Club Culture which he observes, dissects and belittles. His Belfast upbringing plays a strong part in his routine, ranging from family foibles all the way to religious bigotry. He's not so much the boy-next-door, as the squatter downstairs. He broke into stand-up in 1993, when he made the final of the So You Think You're Funny new act competition. He performed at every Edinburgh Fringe from that year until 1998, and has gone on to become a regular at all the major clubs and several international comedy festivals. He has also performed stand-up on The Comedy Store and Live at Jongleurs shows on TV. In 2000 he broke into TV acting, and has appeared in the cult sitcom Spaced, stand-up star Al Murray's Time Gentleman Please, Sean Lock's superb (and strangely under-rated) 15 Storeys High and the BBC's extremely classy adaptation of Charles Dickens' 'Bleak House'. But he's truly at home on stage, with an unstoppable charm and a dry, irresistable wit.

Since his first gig in 2008 JOSH WIDDICOMBE has had a remarkable impact on the comedy circuit. In just two years he has won the FHM Stand Up Hero 2010 competition, been named Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2010 and after just a handful of gigs made it to the final of the prestigious 'So You Think You're Funny' final at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008.
Now regarded as one of the best up-and-coming acts on the UK circuit Josh is in constant demand at clubs and theatres across Britain. Other than stand up he has been busy taking part in BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends, Arthur Smith's Balham Bash, BBC Radio 5 Live's Fighting Talk and ITV4's Mark Watson Kick's Off and was featured as recently as last Saturday on UK C4's "Stand Up For The Week".

So is this the last one this winter or will there be more before summer starts?

It's the last of the club shows for this season.

There will be more comedy over the coming months, though, including Stephen K. Amos in Zurich and Geneva next month

Good times, good laughs.

As a non-native English speaker I had some difficulties to understand everything with Josh, but still found him funny. And Smiley was great fun.
Have fun tonight Zurich!

Re: Stand Up Comedy in Basel with MICHAEL SMILEY & JOSH WIDDICOMBE

Typically, I wake-up this morning with no hangover despite a total of 12 beers, most probably....no, most definitely, still drunk (amazingly rotten stuff Wartek! ) to receive an email from Stephen K Amos saying he'd love to do a show at Kuppel on 10th June. So the 'maybe' from last night is now a definite and I'll be posting the official show date next week sometime. Tickets won't go on sale until a week or two beforehand and it'll be a strict limit on availability to catch Stephen doing this extra-extra-extra special club show after the two theatre shows in Zurich and Geneva.

Right now I'm having trouble staying upright long enough to get ma kecks on and keep falling back onto my bed though I think I'll be able to drive back for the last pre-summer Zurich club show tonight better than I'll be able to walk to the car. Gonna give it my best shot anyway. Here goes folks......
