I'll be there too, just a small selection of cheeses today but I will have some bottles of British ales (some will be cool too ) and no doubt I'll crack open a bottle of port, just in case you don't know what Blue Stilton tastes like washed down with some Tawny.

This sounds like a fun way to enjoy a Sunday. Cupcakes, cheese and beer. I am somewhat concerned that exercising such moronic consumerist decadence on a Sunday will cause the forests to empty and the rivers to run dry. But on this occasion I am sure it can't be such a sin. Can it ? We should be told.

I'd be more worried about human rights of the presenters who will work there dawn to dusk...but knowing how much they love their biz and customers, adn the fact it will certainly be more than a bag of chips, it breaks my heart not being there and loading up again on that crazy good cheddar&beer (and not trying the cupcakes), argh.

Indeed we should applaud those working so hard for our enjoyment. They deserve to succeed in their business. So give them your support and head down to Zürich Expo.

Re: Expat Expo Zurich, Sept. 4th 2011

I would definitely head to ZU, the food and fun is worth the 3hr trip up there, but my other half has a project to do this weekend, and pretty much all weekends, holidays, nights and evenings this year...bloody independents, and all this while mountains are callin' . Try to explain this to a 4yr old, who is a cheddar & cup cakes maniac, too.

The end of the world may be nigh, it may even be Independents' Day (sic) and we are all doomed.

So what better thing to do after a morning of reporting the neighbour for walking on cracks in the pavement and loitering with intent to use a parking space ?

Come on down. Do the rounds like you would at a swiss market and eat all the samples. No scowling faces here. You will be so shocked that more samples are forthcoming, that you will be pleased - nah overjoyed to buy something.

One could trump those and vacuum the cracks. Though I can't rip on them, hahaha, back home pavements look like Red Army blew them up. A bit of ocd tlc would do them good.

How was the cheese, beer and cup cakes?
Thank god there will be Expat Expo GE.

Re: Expat Expo Zurich, Sept. 4th 2011

Cup cakes were pristine though I didn't sample them. The beer was excellent from the British Cheese Centre and I indulged in a combo of Rappi Gold, Spitfire, Bishop's Finger and Swiss Arse. OK I made the last one up, but the others were very tasty.

On the food front, many of the stalls had freebie samples of sweeties and nibbly bits, so if you were completely mercenery, you could have stuffed your face while browsing and talking complete bollox with any stallholder that intercepts you.

The most stupid thing (again) was the financial services company that had a roulette wheel as their pull-em-in attraction. Have they still not realised that financial advisors promoting their roulette is unlikely to win over investing clients..

A what-was-I-drinking moment when I left the building for some fresh air and bumped into a couple of Llamas. Like you do.

Were there enough bouncy castles?

Rappi beer is nice. I still have bottles to bring back, they are too nice to pitch.

Bouncy castle? Check.
But it wasn't anywhere near as popular as Grumpy's cheese and excellent ginger fudge.

There was one bouncy castle. It would have been nice if they had 2. One for bigger children and one for the smaller ones.

I really loved many of the stalls there and I'll be making use of many of the services/products provided.

My favorites: (no order of preference)
1. Of course The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland (I scored a huge jar of clotted cream and can't wait to bust that baby open and enjoy it with some home-made scones!)
2. New in Zurich (ja I'm not new but I'd like to take part anyway.. There's still a lot I don't know about this place)
3. Oh! Sweetest thing cupcakes (Oh! my gosh! How adorable was the stall?! Even Frau Meier was wearing a gorgeous 1950's outfit! I LOVED IT! (yeah yeah, I know.. My avatar reveals my love) I had a vanilla/chocolate cupcake and it was divine!)
4. Curious Courses
5. Art workshops in English
6. Little big parties
7. Swiss-German courses
8. Simply Theatre Academy
9. All for kids
10. Hark Designs
11. English Speaking Club Zurich
12. Stickerella
13. Interior Design Classes
14. Peace Foods

These were my favorites due to the fact that they offer products/services that I will be using. There were many other informative and lovely stalls but right now, at this point in my life, I can't say that I'll be using them. I have kept many business cards and brochures as I will probably need something of theirs in the future.

Frickin' loved the llamas - disappointing that you can't actually ride them...I liked the way one was shaven to illustrate their "actual" size

How about an EF llama trekking outing??

Wow! Thanks for having us on your favorites list! It was a pleasure having you at our stall and looking forward to hearing from you in the future. It will be our pleasure to create a unique birthday party for your child.
Kind regards,
