City/Town: Zurich, 8005
Event Type: Special Promotion
Location: Markthall im Viadukt, 231 Limmatstrasse,

Saturday August 13th, the Rappi Bier Factory are coming to the Markthalle im Viadukt to help me promote their beer (which I already sell there). There will be free tasters of 3 or 4 of their beers and you will be able to talk to some of the team who consistently brew the best beer in Switzerland and, with their Blackbier, the best black beer in Europe.

We will also be offering a free cheese tasting, the idea is to explain to our Swiss customers how cheese is often served with beer in the UK so we will be pairing the beers with what we think are suitable cheeses but also asking the customers what they think are the best pairings.

We also hope this day will finally persuade the market bar that they really should be serving Rappi Gold at least at the bar.

That's the serious bit...... but we also plan to have a bit of fun....

So, the beer will also be available to buy by the glass if you decide it is good enough to turn your day into a beer day (trust me, it is) and you will be able to buy bottles to take home.

I will also be preparing mini Ploughmans Lunches.... plastic lunch trays filled with salad, pickle/chutney, cheese and bread. You won't be able to sit at the restaurant to eat these so we will make them in such a way that they can be eaten standing up with just a fork at our temporary bar, or if the weather is friendly, you can head outside and eat them at one of the pavement benches. Price will be around 10.00 CHF per plate, not sure what cheese we will be offering but there will be a choice of a cheddar and a Stilton at least.

You can get to the market by trams 4 and 13 which stop outside at Dammweg or by train to Hardbrücke and a short walk. See you there!

The stand looks great grumpy, I hope you have a successful day. I was a bit optimistic, thought I might make it to the farmers market in St Louis with adrianlondon and then head over to Zurich, but we've just got back, I'm tired and, er, "glowing" from the bike ride with a rucksack fully loaded with lovely fresh, cheap produce, so I won't make it over there. Hopefully on the 2nd though. All the best.

Just missed my train. Now I know none of the doors open in the final minute before

We'll get there eventually

I fully concur. The Blackbier is my kind of beer (dark), but as I told the guys at the stand, Linth Maisbier is just PERFECT. It is rare to find a light beer with such a texture, and the taste and smell are superlative.

Many thanks to GG for the delicious lunch. I am happy to report that all the cheeses, fudge and beers made it through the train ride and safely to my parents' home. My family all loved the godminster and the stilton, but my parents were unable to try the beers because my brother, his wife and I...ehm...managed to hide them

Cheers, looking forward to the Ploughman's Lunch in September!

from the "just raising awareness" files: today's Zueritipp has a write-up of some of the more popular microbrews from in and around Zurich like Amboss and Bier Paul.

Beer is not just fizzy, watery lager.
...
There are various micro breweries rising to prominence across the country and it would be lovely to have local bars providing a selection of international, national and local beers, rather than the nasty 'choice' currently on offer in most Swiss bars / restaurants.
