Grumps, as you know I love their beer. Do you know of any bars or pubs in Zurich that serve it?

Beer is not just fizzy, watery lager. We as consummers ought to question bars and restaurants who feel grand enough to offer first class wines but treat their customers with contempt by offering only lousy beer. Either they don't understand nor take beer seriously or they think their customers are chumps.
There are various micro breweries rising to prominence across the country and it would be lovely to have local bars providing a selection of international, national and local beers, rather than the nasty 'choice' currently on offer in most Swiss bars / restaurants.
It's up to us as consumers to press for better quality.
I could drink a RappiGold for breakfast. Not sure the same could be said of some national beers
It comes as a surprise to many that beer can be used like wine to compliment food, yet beer is hardly a modern invention.
Looking forward to it!

As UM say's, most restaurants and bars are not too bothered or are tied to one the big water beer breweries.
I have asked a couple of restaurants that I supply cheese to, the sort of funky alternative places that you would think Rappi beer would be welcome at and they all tell me the same thing, (most) Swiss consumers just don't see beer as something special, it's just cold and wet and they don't care what they drink. But these same people will spend 20 minutes perusing a wine list before spending 50 - 100 chufs on a wine. It will change, but might take some time.

Grumpy, doesn't the street parade take place on the same day?

I presume they know this absolutely, and expect more visitors than normal after the actual parade will have ended. People who then will take the info with them.
The Viadukt still suffers a bit from the fact that many of the shop owners thought that people working in nearby banks would go shopping in that area which of course was as wrong as it was obvious, as "bankers" do NOT spend their time in that quarter but move into "better" quarters to do their shopping. They have recently changed their opening hours in order to be more attractive to both residents of the quarter and visitors from outside, but of course look forward to new customers from outside. For the producers of the Rappi Beer, a "wider audience" for their products might be a good option. Not least as Rapperswil is a well known "Ausflugsziel", not least with the Zürichsee-Schiffe, and some of the visitors might opt for a short walk over to the Kaserne to have a beer overthere.

Also, I can only imagine, that people who will not attend the street parade, will stray away from Zurich and the chaos involved with it.

But considering the street ban of selling beer, I could be interested to take some Rappi in my back back...with other beverages. Any chance they are selling it in Bag in Box?

And during the street parade, you only have to stay away from General Guisan Quai and the Bellevue -Stadelhofen area, and then it is no problem really. There in general is no chaos involved, but the whole matter is remarkably well under control (exceptions permitted). | This user would like to thank Wollishofener for this useful post:

Can we wear our spandex outfits to the cheesy beer tasting?
Seriously (OT) though, this is my second year of being in Zureich at the same time as the street parade and hopefully I can miss it. The only thing is, Mrs Nickatbasel and Nickatbasel Jnr will be arriving at HB at about 5pm that day from the Netherlands. Am I right in thinking the best way back to Albisrieden is going to be via S-bahn to Hardbrucke or Altstetten with a stopover at the Viadukt?
Cheers,
Nick

I know this is about beer, but...having missed the Port tasting, any chance you'll still have some bottles to sell? |

Looking forward to it! | | | | | Agree - Rappigold is a brilliant beer, and one of the few I actually savour when drinking.
BTW, is what we're having today, and had before last week, a con-summer? Sorry, couldn't resist | This user would like to thank BHBT for this useful post:

Cheers,
Nick | | | | | Take the Tram 4 or 13 from the HB to Dammweg; the stop is just outside the Markthalle's doors. It's easier if FamblyNick are schlepping bags etc than walking around from the station at the other end.

Looking forward to it! | | | | | A little late to this thread but thankfully not too late. We are looking forward to our first taste of Swiss microbrew.
To echo the above comment, we are disheartened at the lack of variety of beers at not only restaurants but at pubs and bars too. We are new here so I'm sure we'll eventually find a few gems, but so far it has proved more challenging than we had anticipated.
I read a quote from a Peruvian restaurateur who has enjoyed international success, that he is reluctant to open restaurants in places where their traditions are so steeped because the people believe so firmly in only their traditions.
