Dear oldies,

Just because we happen to be young(-er) don't mean we enjoy all kinds of mayhem. There are some things which are only meant to be avoided, at all costs.

Regards,
Young folk
Hehehe, young man, you have no idea how glad I am that video meant lugging a camera with a tape inside and photos meant loading film into the back of a camera back in the olden days (you know, like the 90s ). No pics didn't happen, right? I appreciate the lack of evidence of my youth .

Re: Are you excited?

On a level of one to ten in the underwhelmed department, the battery on my meter has either died or it's just a confirmation of what I already know to be a fact.

In fact, if there was a Squidgy the Hedgehog alternative free concert anywhere else on the planet for children, including dressing up as domestic farmyard animals, I would right now be measuring up my udders and having my bell tuned.

Lugging a camera with tape inside : Done that.
Loading a film into a camera : Done that.

And pics did happen...
which eventually found their way to the internet.

No evidence of something which people should not see is ever lost...
Never ever...

It wasn't deleted - it was merged into this thread.

Please keep all discussion about GOING to Street Parade on this thread, and leave the other thread for people who are NOT going to Street Parade to discuss what else they can do in Zurich instead. Thanks.

Close but the opposite. Notting Hill is second only to the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival and has up to 2 million people in attendance. Sorry for the OT, just defending the home turf.
I'm sure you've done your homework but is NHC even bigger than Rio?
NHC should be good this year, you'll have a riot.

A good tip to see if you like Street Parade but you're not sure is to go to the man made island Bauschantzli near Burkliplatz. For some reason, even though it's right nearby it doesn't normally get that full on Street Parade. You can hear ans see everything. If you like the look of it you can walk 2 ins and you're in the crowd. There's also toilets there. 1 or 2chf a pop (or poop).
Carl Cox, legendary Brititsh DJ is also headlining. The first (UK) DJ to be famous for mixing on 3 decks.
Here's one of his best tunes of the early 90s.

Still a wicked track.

My mate and I used to get to raves early and if he was there we'd chat to him and he'd tell us his latest tracks. Really friendly. He once played the b side of an import hip hop track (Most Wanted - Calm Down) that I'd been dying to get hold of but couldn't find. I asked him (at Sterns in Worthing) if I could buy his copy off him once he'd played it. He said sure and sold it to me for a fiver (imports cost 8-10 quid back then).
Such a nice bloke. Apparently his wife drives him to all his sets in the UK and just waits in the car cos she's not that into it anymore.

There's something rather sweet about forty-somethings who still dance to techno music, isn't there?

(They remind me of the forty year old Teddy Boys who infested working men's clubs in the seventies)

Unless Jimmy Bee is really Paul Keating, the flamboyant and colourful ex prime minister of Australia who had a penchant for expensive suits and once called Australia, the asshole of the world (loved him though), then I doubt that is his photo....

There are too many men wearing too tight PVC for it to be an enjoyable experience for looking at women in skimpy outfits.

Just when you think you've got some lovelyness to look after - your field of vision is disturbed by a 40-something medicine cabinet in gold short shorts winking at you.

Never again - probably

I was on Bauschntzli last year and one older couple were there for the usual outdoor dancing. They were both wearing black pvc outfits. Good for them.
And two years a our group at Street Parade saw a Swiss woman in her 40s who brought her mum along. This sweet old lady in her seventies seemed to be really enjoying the music and the crowd. She was so happy she had a little jig with a guy in our groups who was in his late twenties. He was a bit taken aback when she grabbed him and gave him a big kiss on the lips. Even more startled when he found out I was videoing it all on my phone!

40 somethings are now the generation who first got into House music when it first came to Europe from Chicago in the mid to late eighties(*). Let them have their one day a year of revellry!

*When the first House and Techno DJs and producers (who were mainly black or hispanic) first came over from Chicago and Detroit in the late 80s to play and perform their 'new' music at clubs and then raves, they were astounded at all the white Europeans dancing to their tracks.
They didn't know how big their home grown music had become. No one had told them, as they had signed record contracts where the labels only gave them royalties of records sold in the US (mostly from sales in their home city), not telling them that the unscroupulous record company owners were raking it in, also mass exporting it to the UK and Germany.

Re: Zurich Street Parade 2011

Does anyone have any recommendations on after parties? I see that there are several clubs which will have them. Are any venues particularly better or worse? Yeah, I know that's vague. I'll be wearing a costume so I would hate to end up some place kind of relatively "low key" as that is not what I'm shooting for.

Thanks.
