Just a wee reminder to everyone that this year's big St Patrick's day event will take place this Sunday at The Carlton on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. Doors open at 11:00. I will be there hanging around the Hurling stand & Grummpygrapefruit will have stand selling Irish cheeses. Hope to see some of you there.

There was last year but it was in another location. I can pretty much guarantee there will be Guiness by the bucket .

Being a Scottish Whisky buff I can agree to that, the best Irish whiskey especially the black malt variety.

Afraid not, but Jameson's have a stand and there will be plenty of Guinness. The entry to the event is free and on stage in the marquee will be Irish song & dance from 11am until 7.30 pm - programmehere

Irish food will be on offer by the Carlton Restaurant (so should be good) and we'll be there with four cheeses from Co Cork, and some other British stuff (including Blue Stilton), all free tasting but you can buy some to take home as well.

See you there!

This quite a fun event (apart from someone wandering off with Jemma's cheese ). It was great to meet folks I knew and a few more I hadn't met before. It was good to get cheered up a bit.

Re: (Various, Other, Various) Irish Events in Switzerland (various locations) | 16.03

No Guinness, just Murphys. Dreadful swiss beer. Jamesons. Baileys. And more Baileys. And yet more Baileys. Being forced to drink buckets of Baileys in the absence of anything better, made for quite a surreal afternoon.

Plenty of kids there with makeup, showing the adults how partying should really be done.

The venue was of course the Carlton and there was no evidence of its meat-market reputation of Tuesday nights.

The authenticity of the Irish festival was carried through to a smoking ban. Which as I was told "was on the orders of the committee." We were forced to go behind the bikesheds to smoke.

Lots good cheese from grumpygrapefruits cheeseclub.ch and scones and soda bread from...someone else.

Lots of dancing and Irish old-timee music. Uncle Max did indeed reneague on his promise to perform a jig.

A great afternoon and evening as Uncle Max pointed out, the professional party animals start early and finish early, as indeed proved to be the case.

I have to admit, I was disappointed by the lack of beer flying into the air. That might just be a Seattle thing though?
