Hello everyone. I have a couple of places available on Sail YSL's upcoming RYA Day Skipper theory course. The dates are 9, 10 11, 16 & 17 September (11 September is Knabenschiessen and hence a bank holiday in Zurich).
RYA Day Skipper Theory is a course in basic seamanship, navigation and meteorology and is an essential precursor to the Day Skipper practical course.
The RYA Day Skipper qualification is increasingly becoming the minimum standard required to skipper a boat in the Mediterranean, either on flotilla or especially for bareboat charter, and it is not possible to pass the practical course without demonstrating knowledge of the subjects covered in the theory course.
These subjects include: seamanship, including terminology, ropework, safety, the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (colregs), navigation including chart familiarisation, use of chart instruments, the compass, position fixing, tides and tidal streams, passage planning, pilotage and basic meteorology.
The course cost is CHF 1150 inc. VAT per person and includes exercises, course notes book, training charts and exams, along with the RYA Training Almanac, and Portland plotter and dividers set for you to keep, all together worth CHF 95.00, as well as the exams at the end of the course and certificate on successful completion.
I also have a couple of spaces on the practical course running in Greece in early October (
https://www.englishforum.ch/commerci...ea-greece.html), enabling you to become qualified before the end of this season and while your theory knowledge is fresh, ready to head off on flotilla or your first bareboat experience at any time next year!
