19.05.2018 12:00 to 18:00
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Special Promotion
Location: Viadukt Market, Limmatstrasse 231, 8005
Price: Free entry

I've held off announcing this here because the weather forecast was not looking too friendly for Saturday, but now it looks safe enough to enjoy drinking outside. Although I'm afraid it won't be as nice as the amazing weather we had for the Diamond Jubilee Street Party we had here 6 years ago!

The British Cheese Centre and British Beer Corner bar will be holding a party at the Viadukt Market in Zürich from 12 - 6 on Saturday to celebrate the wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. We'll have a bar and tables outside on the front terrace and will have 2 beers on tap from Black Isle Brewery in Scotland, we'll also be serving Pimm's, Camel Valley Cornish sparkling wine and Cider. To eat we will have a Royal Cheese Plate, Smoked Salmon bagels and Scones and Clotted Cream. My neighbours at the fish shop will also have a grill and will be serving Burgers and Hot Dogs (that's the US contribution for Meghan )

We'll be serving outside from 12 - 6 but the market stays open until 8 so we can continue celebrating (or drinking) until then.

The Viadukt Market is by Tram Stop Dammweg (4, 13 and 17) and there is plenty of visitor parking down the side of the market on Viaduktstrasse. Hope you can make it!
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Actually, it's most of my Swiss customers who have gone more crazy over this. They want to watch the wedding on the Beeb with British Cheese, scones and clotted cream washed down with English sparkling wine. I wish there was a Royal wedding every month, my sales are double so far this week!

Re: Celebrate the Royal Wedding with us in Zürich.

It's a lovely idea. I'll ask around in my area and see if anyone is up to having scones and clotted cream.

By the way, after a week in England with my adults students, they came back raving about tea rooms, scones, cakes and clotted cream. There's a market for a British tearoom here if it's done right.

Edit: Never mind... I see there are already tearooms in Zürich to be had.

I found out some years ago that almost all Swiss, on a visit to the UK, come back in love with Scones and Clotted Cream. It's why I have them on display right by the front door. Almost every day I hear new customers walk in the market and in raptures ... "Ohhhh Scones!!!"

And I now also serve them warm with tea to eat in the market

Where do you stand on the 'jam first' versus 'cream first' controversy? (Which has split families and communities in the UK even worse than Brexit has...)

Re: Celebrate the Royal Wedding with us in Zürich.

I'd like to come but...

1. Is the party kid friendly?
2. Will it be in a smoke free area? (Please, no bashing. A yes or no will do.)

Thanks!!!!

The Viadukt Markthalle (where the party is) is a kid-friendly area.
The Markthalle itself is an inside area which is non-smoking.

(I should be there around 1700 onwards)

If you also had crumpets which I could grill over over t' open fire (electric, for nostalgia) and salted butter then I'd be there, even wit' wedding goin' on in't background. (Was this OK spelling for a Londoner?)

Will definitely make it soon to your establishment, but not for the Royal Wedding, unless I am overcome with an onslaught of requests from Swiss royalists (could still absolutely happen).

I put cream first then jam, simply because it's easier to spread the thinner jam on the thicker cream.

Very kid friendly both inside and out. And inside it's no smoking anyway.

Not even a royal wedding is worth crumpets.

Throw in a packet of Wotsits with draught IPA, then I'd be there in a shot - but that's my limit (am pretty progressive on these things). It's just not easy to convince CH colleagues...

Crumpets however would topple the decision.

Anyway, have heard from good sources that the venue is great, and look forward to going there outside of Royal Wedding or WM times...

That's uncanny. You're a proper cockney and no mistake.

Heresy! (Actually, I think. I should really check that with my peer group.)

I like a nice crumpet[*]. Royal weddings, not so much. But since I don't have to pay for them anymore, I'm easy.

[*] Like a lot of comfort food from my youth, I haven't had one in ages, so maybe I'll find the magic has gone since I acquired my sophisticated Swiss taste...

I'm here to improve the quality of your cockney. And we can both agree you've made a lot of progress.

Today's the day. And according to this CNN video, it's books, cheese and scones that are cashing in on the Royal Wedding.

See you later!
