City/Town: Zurich Niederdorf
Event Type: Concert/Show
Location: Zodiac Club, Spitagasse 5 8001 Zurich
Price: 15.-

Hello Everyone,
just wanted to make you all aware of a new evening that will be on monthly in Zurich.

Me and a colleague are hosting an event every month where we fly over 2 solo acoustic artists. The artists are well known London acts, our partnership is called Underground_sessions. The main goal of this evening is to create a social club for English speaking where we can all meet, have a few relaxed drinks midweek, enjoy making new friends, also networking while listening to some great live sounds. Hopefully we can all help each other with certain subjects i.e job opportunities, finding accomodation etc.....

The opening night is the 6th Aug and to open it we have Nick Mulvey (played on 7 stages at Glastonbury this year) and Lucy Kitt, a fantastic up and comming song writer / guitarist.

The details for the event are:
*Underground_sessions*
*Zodiac Club *
*Spitalgasse 5*
*Zurich*
(right in the centre of the Niederdorf)

*6th Aug opens 20.00*
*finishes roughly 23.30 *

Would be great to see as many there as possible, more nights are planned for Oct and Nov please see our website for more details.

Yeah, thanks...and it was really, really amazing. I thought Lucy was really good, but then Nick, wow, he was just one of the best musicians I have ever seen in action! My wife and I were absolutely unsure of what to expect when we showed up, and left as happy as we could be...thanks for all the efforts to bring these guys over. We will be attending at the next sessions I'm sure.

Yup - we loved it as well - will certainly be at the next one! Echo what Arizona Ben said - completely unsure what to expect and it far exceeded my expectations...Although am regretting that 'one last beer' this morning...

Re: Acoustic concert

The underground session last night was amazing...especially Nick. The whole idea of bringing acoustic artists to the club is anyway a great idea and should be more people supporting this...so check out the next one...great job!

Re: Acoustic concert

I concur it was a great success! I am really looking forward to the next one. But I am bummed I didn't get to see Nick as i had to go before he played.

My only complaint was all the rude people who talked, shouted and laughed through the entire first set! They were carrying on conversations louder than the music. There are plenty of other days in the month to go to a bar and chat with your friends! If the musicians are playing we are all here to listen. Please shut up and be respectful!

Re: Acoustic concert

Outstanding gig, very very cool indeed - great venue and well done to Lucy for carrying on through all the chatter that was going on during her set, grr!

Still in stunned amazement as to how any man can play guitar that intricate, that fast, let alone sing at the same time, let alone sing that well at the same time.

Pass on best wishes to both!

Terry

Re: Acoustic concert

Sorry to drag up an old event but I was wondering, since you have no "act" lined up for September (I think I recall you saying this?) I was talking with a couple of friends and we thought in order to keep the momentum, how about an "open jam" session, where anyone in Zurich with an instrument can head down and join in?

We could maybe alternate this with the bands for Oct / Nov when you have acts (e.g. one fortnight in Oct have the band, then 2 weeks later open jam, then 2 weeks later another act for Nov, then open jam...)

What do you think?

Terry

edit - p.s., just saw the video clips of Nick and Lucy on the myspace site, phenomenal - anyone in any doubt about coming in October should check those out...!

Re: Acoustic concert

Hi Terry,

thats right we did say there would be no event in Sept, this is mainly due to us both being away on vacation. David & myself have been talking about putting another event on, could be open mike or up and comming local bands or both.

We have not yet decided what to go for as we want to build a reputation for English acoustic music with the name Underground Sessions. We have artists for October, November, December, Feb, March......

The Underground sessions site will be updated shortly and it will have some info on the up and comming events and artists. We have Freddie Keen and Oscar Cainer for Oct. Oscar is bringing his 110 year old banjo so that should be special!

There will also be a CD available at the next event of Lucy and one of Nick from the actual night (great live recording of the opening night) also there will be a compilation CD of them both with a couple of bonus films from the night.

We have to generate some capital (with more ticket sales and promo material) to ensure we can keep the evenings going. Myself and David enjoyed the opening night and it was great to see and hear such a positive response from those who attended.

Looking forward to the next one, all is confirmed!

See you at the next one,
best regards,
Oliver.
