City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Exhibition
Location: Rote Fabrik, Zurich / Wollishofen
Price: 5 CHF

Last year's event had to be cancelled, but we are at it again !

A full weekend dedicated to classic computers !

(Re)Discover that old classic Commodore 64. Play games on the Vectrex that you could not afford as a kid...plus Dragon 32 & 64, for which software development is still going on. Plus many original and old gameconsoles.

More of a professional mindset ? We have 8" floppies, papertape readers & punches, early 70 Tektronix graphic terminals, a fully functional IBM 360 remake, using the massive original operators console.

Want to have your own PDP8 or PDP11? we demonstrate fully functional replica kits, having a similar lights&switches panel as the orignal, in a somewhat more managable size. Google for Pidp8 and Pidp11 !

See you in the Rote Fabrik, checkout https://vintagecomputerfestival.ch/

It's funny to consider vintage computer as soon as it is 10 years old.

I am interested It's been to long since I touch a PDP11 or an IBM 36 38 Through in a VAX 750 and I will be happy.

That is a more-or-less standard definition in the classic computing community. But you will struggle to find anything younger than 25 years at the fair !
( Replica's excepted of course.)

These were hardly ever used in computers, but we might have some nixie-equipped desktop calculators on display.
USSR-sourced Nixies are still plentifull on ebay, and are quite easy to use.

I've never been, but am definitely interested...

Do you cater also to console communities? I have several thousand duplicate games (NES->Wii) that I would love to sell or trade for games I still don't have...

Re: Vintage computer festival

No hand card punchers? That’s how I started my IT career at ICL.

Or binary code readers that we had to send-off for processing to receive the results of each of my computer science studies homework and receive the translations in about 2 - 4 weeks? (Yes, we were selected for the first ‘Guinea pig‘ studies in the UK for O‘level computer science).

All seems a bit new-fad to me

Forgot disk drives / disk packs - apologies

We have someone on the show who still has an IBM 029 keypunch in his attic, some 4 staircases up. Weight issues prevent us exhibiting said device...

But I can show some 2.5Mb and 5Mb 14" diskpacks if you want. With the accompanying drives...

While we do have a hands-on exhibit / gaming section, including computer games and old consoles, we dont have a big sale / swap / trade section. We are already space-constained just with the exhibits...

If you have one of those odd first 8-bit pieces of crap like an Apple-I lying around in your attic (know the problem), then I might consider taking it off your hands. (My first PC experience - marketing it to a client was the version II)

I humbly apologize … it looks like a great exhibition! Remember that I took daughter to one in Zurich, but it was at another location (can’t remember where - but have the Landesmuseum in mind) and years ago. She loved it.

Since then she has been offered a phd in computer science! (didn’t take it, but still happy).

All the very best - this looks like a really cool exhibition!

In fact, might even go there myself (with daughter)

Aha, I'll do my best to pass by! I collect old (nintendo) videogames, so always interested Have (literally) thousands of games, every console from the CTG-6 to the Switch and some fun parts (like the 80's VR glove).

Sadly, I gave away my spectrums a while ago when I opted to focus on nintendos....

In previous years....

There is a regular exhibitor who brings a paper tape puncher / reader. He demonstrated loading small PDF (<1MB) from paper tape to a PC. The tape was a very big reel.

They also have PDP enthusiasts who have built a PDP console with Raspberry Pi providing the logic.

There is usually a corner dedicated to consoles. I‘m not sure if you can just rock up and sell / exchange stuff, but I assume you can bump elbows with enthusiasts and find contacts for what you want.

Re: Vintage computer festival

The ones I remember were massive! At Neuch‚tel Uni with my big bro- who did his PhD in Computer studies in Grenoble in 64! He actually was part of the team that invented Algol in those heady early days, and Pascal. And then the one at the hospital in Stoke-on-Trent in 1973 - it was housed in a massive building!

When we moved here, and cleared stuff out, our BBC Master and ZX81 went to the tip! ouch.
