Hi all

Just reminding you all of the upcoming Amsterdam trip (November 7-8 2009).

Amsterdam is very pretty; you'll emerge from the grand Central Station into a city of canals and bridges, parks and cafes, so to get around, do it the Dutch way - by bicycle!

Amsterdam is also spoilt for museums: two of its best are the Rijksmuseum, whose most famous resident is Rembrandt's The Night Watch and the Van Gogh Museum comprising nearly every painting, sketch, print, etching, and piece of correspondence that Vincent van Gogh ever produced including, of course, Sunflowers. After seeing the painted variety, treat your eyes again with a wander through the real thing at the Bloemenmarkt (Flower Market).

Anne Frank's House, the former hiding place of Anne Frank and seven others during World War II, and the place where she wrote her now-famous diary, is today preserved as a museum. A visit here not only allows you to climb to the attic and learn the history of those who hid here and those who helped them, but also challenges you to examine your views by posing modern ethical questions.

The idea would be to meet at the Basel SBB at 10.30am, Saturday November 7th and transfer to the Basel airport. The flight from Basel to Amsterdam leaves at 1pm and arrives at 2.30pm. Upon arrival we’ll check into our hostel (dorm beds) and set off to explore the city. Our tour will take in the historic old town, the city’s famous canals, The Red Light District, the infamous ‘coffee shops’ – and much, much more!

On Sunday, there’s plenty of time to explore the rest of the city taking in the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum or Anne Frank’s house (optional cost). Meeting at 6.30pm, we’ll take the train out to the airport for the flight from Amsterdam back to Basel. The flight leaves at 9pm and arrives at 10pm, November 8th.

More information on these places are found below.

The price is 310 CHF and covers a return flight from Basel, 1 night in a hostel (dorm beds), services of a tour guide and a guided bike tour of Amsterdam.

Breakfast at the youth hostel is included in the price but dinners and lunches are not.

If you're serious about attending this trip, you'll need to pay me (in full) no later than Wednesday, September 9th 2009. Thanks. The price of the trip will increase after this date (it’s all based on flights)

Also, please record that you'll be attending this trip via this Doodle link -
