Re: Whisky Tasting

In a spirit of EF pedantry, can I just point out for website/menu accuracy
that...

Islay is a small island on the west coast of Scotland.
(The small island off the west coast of Scotland is called Ireland. )

The central area of Scotland is called the Lowlands; the southernmost
region is called the Uplands.

The Irish don't make whisky; they make whiskey.Tsk-tsk.

Hopefully see some of you there this very evening

That's really pushing it. Pedantic for sure.

Not in my dialect. A island by defintion can't be on the coast.

UBER FAIL.
Hey, don't go blaming me for your cr#p dialect!!!

My dialect puts 3 "i"s in "definition", for example.

He did not misspell whisky. Whiskies is perfectly fine plural of whisky, but i am unsure, if whiskey is also whiskies in plural.

Its more disturbing, that the swedes call their "Mackmyra" whisky

Like Mr Hashbrown, I'll leave you to correct yourself. You'll find that you'll
remember it much better in future.

True, and Irish whiskey is vastly superior to that Scottish stuff. Whiskey is triple distilled which makes it smoother and purer than the heavier, rougher, twice distilled Whisky. The best of the best IMO is Bushmills 16 year old single malt which is matured in bourbon, sherry and port casks.

The Scots say, the Irish can't get it right with just 2 runs through the still, and thats why they need 3 runs

Mostly Scotch is double distilled, but there are exceptions. Auchentoshan is tripple distilled, and one of the Campbelltown distilleries also plays a bit with triple destillations.

Yup, all double-distilled.

Except, of course, for the triple-distilled ones.

And the twice-and-a-half-distilled one.

You mean they use three woods, is that it?

Haven't had too many Irish whiskeys, but my favourite (and cheap) is Red Breast.

Re: Whisky Tasting

, just realised this is the thread for tomorrow's tasting. I thought we were discussing Islay next week. Too many whisky tasting threads. 3 at last count. Too confusing.

Me too. I thought it was a double posting, and read the Islay Thread first, and just skimmed through the one for tomorrow, not noticing the wee difference.

But 2 Whisky Tastings is twice as good :-)
