*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Luzern
Event Type: Other
Location: Kapellplatz, Luzern
Price: Free entry

Not to be confused with the one in the train station, this is a smaller 4 day market with International stalls from Finland, Portugal, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Mexico, USA, Serbia, Greece, France, Spain, Congo, Slovenia, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Kosovo, Tibet, Philipines and we'll be representing Britain & Ireland.

The focus is on food (but there will also be plenty of "crafty" things) and how Christmas is celebrated around the world. I'll be serving Port & Stilton and Hot Toddies and will be selling mince pies, Christmas puds, clotted cream and, of course, lots of special farm made cheeses from around the British Isles. There is also plenty of live music and choirs to keep you entertained.

The market is on from 11.00 - 21.00 on Thursday and Friday, 10.00 - 21.00 on Saturday and from 10.00 - 19.00 on the Sunday and is in Kapellplatz at the end of the famous wooden bridge, just across the river from the main station.

International, you said?

If it's not raining or snowing, and I'm not sick, asleep, in the middle of a Black Dog, or hungover, I'll be there.

Otherwise, have a delightful Christmas!

I'll only have food (maybe a few cheese books if any are left) but looking at the photos from last year on the programme it looks like there will be plenty of non-food items too.

I don't think your favourite Kanton will be there, probably some folks from West Africa.

You really do need a Hot Toddy old chap.

Re: Luzern International Christmas Market

Are the mince pies actually imported from the U.K., or made here? I liked the ones from the Zurich pie shop - no idea how authentic they are/were.

Re: Luzern International Christmas Market

Our mince pies are made at a small bakery in Wiltshire and we import them, same ones as last year and only a few packs left.

Just finished building our stall and had a quick look at a few other stalls - the US stall has some nice looking home made cheesecake which together with some spring rolls from the Phillipines will make up my lunch tomorrow!

Re: Luzern International Christmas Market

Been there right today. It IS nice, but not sensational, and at bad weather, Luzern clearly always is even colder than Zurich. At present weather conditions, I might prefer Basel, Geneva and Lugano which usually rather are milder than Zurich. BUT Luzern is always worth a visit. The "oldwordliness" of this city only is met by Schaffhausen.

Re: Luzern International Christmas Market

It certainly is chilly, but nothing that a hot toddy won't sort out! Last day today, no mince pies I'm afraid left but plenty of good cheese. So far, the best food for me is the paella on the Spanish stall.
