You are more than welcomed to join us. And if you hate losing (not joking), you are definitely on the same wavelength

We usually have a team of the usual 4-5 suspects but always space for more!

No way would I do a pub quiz that charged 5 CHF to take part when I KNOW that me and my team would be putting hundred(s) into their drinks coffers, it's bloody cheeky.
Not cheeky, the price pot is much bigger as a reasult. Much. None of the money goes to the pub obviously so your criticism is invalid.

Why do people always complain when things aren't done the exact way they are used to in their corner of the world. And do so before actually reading what is said.

Re: Pub Quiz at Mc Gee's Pub in Zurich - 2nd September

I do pub quizzes for fun not to win money, and 5 CHF is still only going to amount to a couple of drinks per person either way. I just dont like the idea of paying 5 CHF when I go to a pub quiz to have fun (and will inevitably not come first anyway with how strong the leading teams are).

Don't get your knickers in a twist because someone has a different opinion to you.

EDIT - And also, I just find it a bit poo that the pub isn't contributing anything (from what I read of the OP), while in the meantime raking all the profits that a pub quiz brings.

Another reason to avoid McGees, if the perpetually dead atmosphere weren't enough.
The poorly kept cellar is reason enough for me. Been there 3 times now, wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I've woke up the next day every time feeling rougher than your avatar looks. Nothing to do with quantity consumed either. SpottyDog struggles to finish a single beer in there, which you know isn't normal a problem she has

To be honest though, The Shamrock is one of the few places that does a free quiz. Most of the ones I've been to in the UK have had 50p a person or £1 a team and Hash is right there is a lot more money at stake. The Shamrock doesn't take itself too seriously (team sizes, impossible questions, simple prize structure etc) and that adds to the atmosphere.

It is a bit poor if a pub doesn't give anything back though in return for the higher than normal bar takings. My parents' place do it a bit differently to others - you pay to play and the winner takes most of the buy in, and some is held for a jackpot, but they provide a homemade hot meal at half time for £1 a portion (well under cost) and the takings go to a local charity.

I'm weighing up driving back at Xmas, but it's a 13 hour drive. It's a great pub and everything, but that would be one hell of a road trip for a Thursday night quiz. Almost as bad as coming into Zurich from Baden I suppose it is only an hour from Manchester airport though...

Hi guys, I have been looking at some of the quiz threads around and have question on the general content of quizzes here in Zurich. In terms of quizzes in English pubs, what audience and categories are used the most? Are they generally Anglo-centric in terms of history and knowledge required? I wanted to organise a team event and thought about a quiz but have concerns as there are many swiss/americans in my team, would they be able to contribute anything and have a fun time or would they feel lost. I am worried about people feeling useless in the world of the 1066,1666, Eastenders, and Heat?
I just relocated to Zug, CH from India and happen to be an avid quizzer. The quizzing scene is quite vibrant from where I come from and I would be really interested in participating and organizing quizzes in and around the area of Zug/Zurich. Would definitely like to meet up with folks who like a decent quiz.

Thanks for the update Chris. Will look forward to attending. Hope I find someone to partner with at the quiz because I just moved to CH and I do not know anyone here.

Re: Pub Quiz at Mc Gee's Pub in Zurich - 2nd September

Hey Johnyd1969
I just saw your message and I guess its too late for the quiz. I just live five minutes away from Pickwick in Zug and I had nothing to do all day except muck about in my apartment.

Is there a calendar for quizzes at Pickwick or is it mostly impromptu. Would love to come next time.

Cheers
