Concerts coming up in autumn 2006 around Zurich

Hi folks,

In case any of you are into live gigs and aren't already aware, there's a lot coming up in the late summer / autumn months.

One of the things I love about living here is that we are spoilt for choice for great music of all genres, and in addition get to see some of the lesser known up and coming artists, that possibly sell out way bigger venues back home, up close in small, intimate venues, such as the Abart club in Zurich. Of course there's also the big mainstream acts that pass through the Hallenstadion or similar arenas.

Here's a selection of what's coming up (for which tickets are still available, as far as i'm aware). Some i'm going to, some I can't (it also gets expensive, some of the tickets are quite pricey ). But it would be fun to meet some fellow music fans. If anyone wants to go to something but doesn't want to go alone, get in touch!

Gnarls Barkley (29th August - Maag Event Hall, Zürich)
Pearl Jam (13th September - Arena, Bern)
The Automatic (16th September - Abart, Zürich)
The Divine Comedy (6th October - Kaufleuten, Zürich)
Placebo (6th October - Hallenstadion, Zürich)
Matt Costa (9th October - Abart, Zürich)
The Datsuns (10th October - Abart, Zürich)
Snow Patrol (18th October - Rohstofflager, Zürich)
Jet (22nd October - City Halle, Winterthur)
Corinne Bailey Rae (25th October - Volkshaus, Zürich)
The Kooks (6th November - Abart, Zürich)
Ben Harper (20th October - Arena, Geneva / 7th November - St Jakobshalle, Basel)

[As i'm a twenty-something Brit living in Zurich, a lot of these are more Brit-oriented rock/pop music in Zurich-centric venues, so apologies to those of you with different tastes in different areas! There are, of course, many other great concerts on your doorsteps if you keep your eyes and ears open!!]

Most tickets are available online at starticket and/or ticketcorner. I find it's usually worth checking starticket first though, as with the print-at-home ticketing option you save yourself a few chfs on the handling/processing/credit card/postage fees that ticketcorner always slaps you with. Of course, ticketcorner also has counters and agents where you can buy your tickets in person. Kaufleuten in Zurich also has a series of concerts, some interesting artists pop up now and again - check their website for details. All of the mentioned sites offer mailing list options to keep you up to date and fill your inbox with spam if you're a live music junkie (a.k.a. groupie?!) like me

Happy bopping!

Count me in for Placebo and the Divine Comedy.

I was also excited to see Level 42, on November 14. Then there's Mando Diao, also on November 14. As if that wasn't a tough choice, I'll be in Namibia, so they're both out for me. Bah.

Re: Concerts coming up in autumn 2006 around Zurich

Agree totally. Being a rock snob I quite happily let the masses go see the big "events" (Stones, the twat from Take That etc), whilst I can see Secret Machines, Nada Surf, Arcade Fire, blah blah play smaller venues than they would play in London, New York or Perth. Ticket prices for these shows at Abart etc are actually very low (chf25 to 35) compared to Perth (chf40 to 50).

Also a big seconding of the Starticket "print at home tickets", great system!

What I havent found here in Zurich is a reliable all inclusive gig-guide online. I have to reference a pile of sites and then some good stuff still slips by. One of my favourite bands played Kauflueten recently and it wasnt on any of the listings. Unhappy I was

The listings and venue-sites I regularly check are:
Pollstar http://tinyurl.com/flly9
Clubgirl http://tinyurl.com/zgza5
Starticket http://www.starticket.ch
Ticketcorner http://tinyurl.com/zpm6s
Bro Records - St Gallen http://www.brorecords.com/event.html
Abart http://www.abart.ch/
El Lokal http://www.ellokal.ch/
Rote Fabrik http://www.rotefabrik.ch/musikbuero/start.php
Mascotte http://www.mascotte.ch/

Anywhere else I should check?

Unfortunately Placebo and Divine Comedy are on the same day too...

I'll be opting for the latter

Aha, the Clubgirl list accesses that database. Probably the best, but still misses stuff.

Cool! Thanks Yokine and Lob for those tips! I usually reply on me and my friends being vigilant to various venue websites and word of mouth.

You learn something every day...

I'm definately going to Placebo. I saw them a few years ago at a festival and they blew the headline act (Coldplay) out of the water I thought. Very band.

I also recommend Ben Harper very highly. I saw him in Ticino a few weeks ago. Very cool live.

If you are into a bit travel , there is good stuf going around in central Europe..

e.g.

http://www.frequency.at

the line up for the 18th is...

FRANZ FERDINAND
THE PRODIGY
MANDO DIAO
KAISER CHIEFS
ARCTIC MONKEYS
EDITORS

on the 17th they have the Muse and Futureheads..

It is in salzburg though, so might require hopping on a train ( which we will do) ..

The mighty, mighty Lambchop play the Rotefabrik, Nov. 23rd

Now, if we could only get the Flaming Lips to play...

(The Divine Comedy will be a treat - thanks for the tip!)

I will put a hand up for 'Snow Patrol' if a group gets together; I don't know how early you have to get tx in Zurich, Switzerland - but I am keen

If you are already going; would it be possible to 'tag along' with you (and your friends?). I would like to see the band, but obviously not by myself!!

Hey there!

I'll go to the snow patrol concert in zurich with some friends from england.

We already bought the tickets, and now, one of them can't come to switzerland.
does someone need a snowpatrol ticket? I'd be happy to sell it to you (probably with a better price).
