First aid / Emergency First Response (in English)

As well as moonlighting as a forum admin I'm also a SCUBA instructor (but only on a hobby basis... Ok, alright, it takes up too much time to be called a hobby - I'm sorry).

As part of my duties I'm also an Emergency First Response (first aid) instructor and teach these courses in both German and English. Usually I run these courses prior to Rescue Diver courses (because it is a pre-requisitie for Rescue Diver).

However, I have a feeling that there is big demand for a decent first aid course in Switzerland, but in English.

I was recently contacted by one of the international schools who were making enquiries about running the course for all of their teachers. At first I was shocked - how could teachers, who spend a lot of time around other peoples' children, NOT already have first aid training?

There seem to be a lot of expat mothers around in Switzerland, surely a lot of them would be interested in a course like this to be able to be more effectively care for their loved ones in an emergency? Statistics show that the most likely place you'll need emergency first aid will be around your own family....

The courses I teach are from Emergency First Response corporation, a corporate affliate of PADI. The courses have excellent course materials (book, DVD) and an excellent instructional philosphy behind them. The standard course includes primary care (CPR, rescue breathing) as well as secondary care (bandaging, bleeding management, etc). This course takes 1 day and costs only CHF220. It includes a photo card-type certification which is recognised almost everywhere.

THere is also a separate course designed specifically for those who will care for children, not surpringly it is called "Care for Children". There is more info on this course at the Emergency First Response website:

So this message is not really an advertisement, but is intended more for information. Do you think this is useful? Do you know people who are looking for something like this? Then feel free to copy the URL of this message and pass it on.

This is not something I've really promoted in the past, but if there is demand and the word gets around then I'd be happy to organise courses (not connected to diving) for interested parties. I already maintain a small mailing list of interested parties who want to be notified about the next courses, so if you know someone who is interested tell them to get in touch with me and I'll add their email address to my list.
