Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

Not just a man creche....

Our little girl had a great time today playing with another lovely EF girl whilst we enjoyed excellent cheese, brilliant bagels and lovely cider... Nice way to spend a rainy Saturday.
Thanks Grumpy!

Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

Will Grumpygrape have a stand at the Rapperswil Christmas market? I'm trying to organise an outing with some of my English students and I'd love to end it at his stand.

Welsh Rarebit, British cheese and hot toddies- what a way to end the Rapperswil market!

We'll be there from the 9th - 18th this year and we are being moved down the hill towards the lake. No Rarebits this year, but we will have toasted cheddar bagels as well as Hot Toddies and a Port and Whisky bar. And of course we will be selling cheese too!

I won't be there very often though myself but let me know when you intend to visit and I'll try to arrange to be there myself.

Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

Bought my first bagel from the HB stall today and it was amazingly yummy with the perfect amount of chewiness. Nice work.
I have a feeling it will be the first of many…

Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

Just a quick update..... the Bagel bar is running very well now and we have 5 freezers full of them so shouldn't run out of any flavours. You can buy them to take home or have them lightly toasted with cream cheese, cheddar, blue stilton and a variety of jellies, jams and chutneys too. The best seller is a warm onion bagel with Godminster cheddar and Tangy Tomato chutney.

The bar area gets a makeover next week, we've had to reduce the number of different beers but there should always be at least 20 to take home or drink there and from next week we start serving Pimms by the glass or jug to share as well as port and sherry. Wine and champagne etc is still available at the Oyster bar next to us (we share tables at the front of the market)

And a date for your diary, 2nd June is the Diamond Jubilee and we'll be celebrating with a small street party outside the front doors. Food will include a Ploughmans Lunch, salmon and cucumber sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, cheese plates, cakes and the Pie Shop will be making a special "Royal Pie". Rumour has it that there will also be a very handsome man in a kilt playing his bagpipes.

Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

My "pub" has had a bit of a makeover this week and we now stock 35 different British and Irish beers, ales and ciders. We're open until 8pm but on Thursdays we stay open until 9pm.

We also now serve whisky, port and English sparkling wine (from Kent) and on Thursdays I usually have some pretty decent red and white wines open too.

Bar food is cheese plates and toasted bagels or from my neighbours oysters and sea food tapas.

I think that should be 34, not 35. You don't count cans of Boddingtons as beer do you?

Well, it has its place, it's available here and is pretty cheap. And you'd be surprised how many locals like it.

Re: Grumpys Pub (well not quite, but almost) the "Man Creche" is now serving.

My bar's had a bit of a makeover and has tripled in size, and it also has a proper name now, The Mousetrap. We now have over 40 beers and ciders including 7 guest beers from the US (4 Anchor Steams, 2 Sierra Nevadas and Blue Moon)

As usual, as it's part of the market stall, we can't serve after 8pm although Thursdays we do serve until 9.00 or 9.30 for our regular pub night, tonight should be quite a crowd - hope to see some new faces!

Do you think they'll let you 'expand' to the front glass, and open a serving window there? That'd be a lovely place (outside) for a few tables in summer, just sit and watch the trains rattle by ...

How long before the main bar has been taken over I wonder?

Like the Jubilee party last summer, we're planning some Ploughmans Lunches (with Pimm's too of course) on the front concourse on Saturdays, food will be served from our stand but we might have a small bar outside to serve the drinks - and we may even have Rappi Gold on draught! I'll post events for those when the dates have been confirmed.
