Do you offer motor boating courses?
The RYA theory courses are common to both motor and sail, but otherwise no, I focus on sailing.

If you couldn't make it to last Saturday's Open Day, there are just a couple of spaces left on our "Curious Course" next Saturday:

And if you can't make that, why not come for a morning or evening sail?

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Goodness, doesn't time fly? We've had two very successful sailing trips to Greece in the last few weeks, the November Day Skipper theory course is fully booked and the January course only has 4 places left. Enquiries are also coming in fast for sailing trips and dinghy sailing next year.

In the meantime, we're holding an End of Season Apero here in Richterswil at 15.00 on Saturday 2 November and would be delighted to see as many people as possible there. Info all in a separate thread here:

Sail YSL End of Season Apero

Come and join us!

I've had a last-minute cancellation for November's Day Skipper theory course so 2 spaces have just become available. All the details are in the Commercial Event post here:

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Our dates for theory courses over the winter of 2013/2014 and for skippered charters in 2014 are now online and I'm taking bookings already. In fact, the theory courses are booking up fast! Do get in touch if you fancy a bit of sailing next year.

http://sail-ysl.ch/rya-day-skipper-theory/

http://sail-ysl.ch/skippered-charters/

Also, new for 2014, I'm offering a crew/interpreter service for Swiss practical exams. Since you have to provide your own crew for the exam and communicate with the examiner in German, how better to solve the language barrier than by hiring me to fulfil both roles?!

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Just to mention that the winter-spring programme of theory courses and spring-early summer Greek trips will be posted individually on Commercial Events over the next few days so if you're interested, do keep an eye out over there for the specific events.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and to express my thanks for all the support I've had this year. It's been better than I could have hoped for the first year of operation. Here's to an even more successful 2014 and I hope to meet many more of you!

PS if you're feeling generous and full of the Christmas spirit, it would be great if you could beetle along to our Facebook page and "like" us!

Cheers

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

I know I already posted this before but just wanted to copy it into the correct thread . Very happy to say that I successfully completed (that means a PASS) the 5 day shore-based theory part of the RYA day skippers course.
A really enjoyable, quite intense course - a big big thanks to the skipper eng_ch at RYA theory courses for a very well structured course . . and obviously for coaching us through it!
I would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting into sailing this year.
Next stop, the Med, for the practical assessment . . . can`t wait.
Hopefully then . . . it`s Basher at the helm and shiver me timbers matey!

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

This post is a little late but I wanted to say that I've had such a great time with Sail YSL.

A little back story; I was looking to take a vacation and wanted it to be a sailing cruise somewhere in the Med when I came across one of Emma's posts (eng_ch) here on English Forum about their Greek island tour, the last of the season. Unfortunately it was during Oktoberfest and I already made plans to visit Munich with family from the US. I sent a message that I would have loved to do it but was unable to at the time and wondered if they would send me a message when they planned their cruise next year. Emma quickly wrote back that she would try to organize another cruise this season. She was able to set up and book an entirely new cruise within a week!

We had a really great time. The people were all very nice and wanted to learn. At first, for me, it was about the vacation but I got so interested in everything. I started picking up things like tying knots, navigation, and boat handling. I was hooked. That trip was a definite eye opener.

Fast forward a couple months and I was back in Zurich and Emma convinced me that it would be interesting to take the shore based theory course to further my knowledge and get on my way to certification. I thought "what the hell" I enjoyed sailing in Greece and this would be interesting too. I (she) was right.

I took the theory course at their office in Richterswil. I learned so much (and also how much I still need to learn) but ended up passing and getting the first certification!

If you are even slightly interested in sailing, I highly recommend you take one of the YSL courses. You will be challenged and entertained but you will not be sorry.

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

At yesterday's Expat Expo in Zug, we officially launched a project we're running on the 100-days.net crowdfunding platform.

We're raising funds to buy at least two more boats, so that our two major projects for this summer can happen

The primary feature of a platform like this is that every pitch is all-or-nothing - if we don't meet the target, we get nothing. As a result I've set the target at the very minimum we need. The good thing, however, is that if more than the target is pledged, we get it all.

I'd be truly grateful for any support you can give, even if it's only spreading the word on your Facebook and Twitter pages and among your family and friends. Obviously if you happen to know anyone with a spare few thousand burning a hole in their pocket….

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

I'm delighted to announce the launch of the Sail YSL Club.

Are you an experienced sailor looking for a way to get on the water in Switzerland without having to take the Swiss qualification? Are you a family looking for an activity you can undertake together (or one for the kids after school and in the school holidays)? Do you want to learn to sail in a relaxed and enjoyable environment? Do you like a bargain? The Sail YSL Club has been designed with you in mind.

http://sail-ysl.ch/lots-to-announce-...ship-now-open/

Drop me a line or give me a call to join or if you have any questions

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

You wouldn't think it, looking out of the window today, but it's now high summer - so when better to think about sailing?

Sail YSL (http://sail-ysl.ch/) is Switzerland's English sailing school and club, offering a host of services for those of you wanting to learn to sail so you can charter a boat yourself, and for experienced sailors wanting to get on the water in Switzerland without having to go to the hassle and expense of gaining a Swiss licence that's not valid anywhere else.

We offer:

Dinghy sailing on Lake Zurich - come for a coffee or evening sail to try out the sport, take a dinghy course to learn to sail, join the Club to practice and get out on the water by yourself

http://sail-ysl.ch/dinghy-sailing-in-zurich/

Yachting in Greece - join us island hopping in the land of Homer's Odyssey. There's no better way to see the western Greek islands - no experience required! Learn the ropes or just enjoy a lazy week

http://sail-ysl.ch/yachting-in-greece/

RYA theory and practical courses - take your Day Skipper or Yachtmaster theory course here in Switzerland, and your non-tidal Competent Crew or Day Skipper course in Greece. Day Skipper will qualify you to take charge of a flotilla or charter yacht in many parts of the world

http://sail-ysl.ch/rya-courses/

Buy a boat! We're the sole importer for Hartley Boats dinghies, including the iconic Wayfarer, the fun and versatile Hartley 12 and the super-fast Supernova - no Swiss licence required!

http://sailingdinghies.ch/

Join the Sail YSL Club - packages of benefits offering at least 50% off our services, there's something for every budget and need. To my knowledge, unique not only in Switzerland but in the sailing world

http://sail-ysl.ch/club/

And finally here, to whet your appetite, is our latest blog post with what we've been up to recently, as well as some upcoming opportunities:

Indeed. Just got back from two weeks in the Dodecanese. Not the best sailing winds, mostly a little on the light side, with the last day lost due to a real storm, but a fabulous time was had. Still some more islands to go back to another time as well.

With just the two of us on a 39 footer we finally found a boat that actually had more space than we needed, which was nice
