Indeed. Just got back from two weeks in the Dodecanese. Not the best sailing winds, mostly a little on the light side, with the last day lost due to a real storm, but a fabulous time was had. Still some more islands to go back to another time as well.
That's what I like about Greece; even if you have light to no winds, the island hopping is still so nice, you can eat and drink well and cheaply, swim in the sea, anchor up somewhere that's only accessible by boat etc. And even if the sailing is usually "easy", it's not so predictable that you can let your weather guard down totally.

With just the two of us on a 39 footer we finally found a boat that actually had more space than we needed, which was nice

It's always nice to get a bit of publicity - an article about Sail YSL has just been published in Spot Magazine:

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Fancy a late summer holiday in Greece at half term? We have 2 spaces left on our trip in the week of 11-18 October. Info here:

Sailing trip to Greece - Day Skipper / Comp Crew / just come along for the ride!

FWIW we were still swimming in the sea on 16 October last year

Further to the posts here:

Sail YSL Greek yacht charters in 2015 at 2014 prices; holiday gift vouchers available

our gift vouchers are proving to be popular Christmas presents - yay! If you'd like one, hurry up and get in touch - Tuesday is the very last possible posting date to have a hope of them reaching you in time for the big day, Monday would be better. Don't forget we personalise each and every voucher, so do tell us who it's for and let us know if you'd like to add a personal message.

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm really excited to announce that from this year, we'll be able to offer you the option of gaining RYA dinghy certificates with us in Greece! Come and join us for a week, sleeping on the yacht, and dinghy sailing for 4 days to gain your level 1 and/or 2, followed by a couple of days' island hopping to a couple of our favourite places. It's the ideal opportunity to learn to sail from scratch and see first hand how the same principles apply regardless of the size of boat - in idyllic surroundings. We currently have availability in the second half of May and in September

A Day Skipper theory course is in preparation for February with the possibility of another course in March. There will also be an RYA diesel engine course (1 day) running here in Richterswil on the weekend of 7 & 8 March.

If anyone is interested in an introduction to racing seminar, let me know.

We're also considering running a small regatta through the season under the umbrella of the Sail YSL Club.

Want to sail in 2015? Drop me a line!

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Sail YSL will be running two Day Skipper theory courses this spring, one in February and one in March. The dates and all details are here:

http://sail-ysl.ch/rya-day-skipper-theory/

There are currently 3 spaces on each course. Get in touch if you'd like to claim one of them and hope to see you there!

Hi, do you also offer any kind of refresher course? I did my skipper course about 2 years ago and did not practice much... Is there a chance to refresh my knowledge?

Yes, for sure. What sort of skipper course did you do? Would you be looking for theory, practical or both? Feel free to PM me or call

Despite the current rain and storms, we're ramping up for the summer now. And, with perfect timing, there's a feature interview in the April 2015 edition of Hello Switzerland. Page 16, for those of you who have a paper copy. Or here in electronic form:

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

My 15 minutes of fame (well probably more like 10) are about to come my way - I'll be talking about Sail YSL in an interview on The English Show on Radio X tomorrow (Tuesday) evening! Whilst it's only available over the airwaves in Basel, you can listen to the livestream here:

http://www.radiox.ch/hoeren/livestream/

and if you miss the programme, you can catch up on The English Show's website afterwards, here:

http://www.theenglishshow.com/

The English Show is broadcast from 18.30-20.00 CET every Tuesday evening, and evidently my slot will be from 18.45 - do listen in!

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Where does the time go? 5 weeks in Greece, a Yachtmaster theory course, some winter sailing in Gibraltar and it soon flies by. And above all, planning for our very first Sail YSL Expo, which will be held at our premises in Richterswil on 1-3 April 2016. Entry is free, all the details are in this thread:

Sail YSL Expo 2016

I also have a couple of offerings coming up for "Kurzentschlossene" - last minute decision-makers

- If you fancy a bit of sailing in Gibraltar, I have one space left for Competent Crew or Day Skipper practical from 9-13 March.

- If you already have Comp Crew and would like to progress, you can do a fast-track Day Skipper - theory and practical over 9 days - with me in Gibraltar from 5-13 March.

- If you prefer to take one course at a time, there are several spaces on Day Skipper theory in Gibraltar 5-8 March; alternatively, numbers permitting, I'll be running a Day Skipper theory course in 8805 Richterswil on 19-20 and 25-27 March.

Whatever you decide, please do come along to our Expo on 1-3 April!

Just in time for our upcoming Expo at the end of next week, I'm proud to launch our brand new website!

New Sail YSL website

Do have a mooch around (and let me know if you find any broken links lol) - and do come to our Expo too!

Re: Sailing in the Med and on Lake Zurich

Gosh it's been a while since I bumped this thread! Been too busy sailing

Anyway, with Christmas looming once again, we've been beavering away planning for 2018.

We have a brand new venue for theory courses in central Zurich, and we have exciting stuff going on for practical sailing in Greece next year - we're planning on doing the Ionian Regatta (a "fun" regatta taken semi-seriously with some very serious partying afterwards! - well, we are sailors) and we have a unique offering to (learn to) sail dinghies and yachts in the same week!

I've put info on the courses and dates for 2018 in a thread on Commercial Events. Hope to see you next year!
