I doubt they're going to. I was chatting with Grumpy last night, and this very question regarding real ales came up. There are 2 main problems with real ale: firstly it doesn't travel well at all, and secondly it will go off relatively quickly if not drunk.

Thanks. Pity. I'm sure doombar would be drunk very quickly, it's lovely

TBH any proper Real Ale tastes great to me these days.

What we'd need to do would be to have a proper organised event, scheduled enough time after delivery for the beer to settle before tapping the cask, then guarantee that there's enough of us there for the long-haul to drink the barrel dry. No-one allowed to leave until it's all gone.

Grumpy, how much would we have to drink in a session to make this possible?

A firkin has 72 pints, however some of that will be ullage so lets say 68 pints - that works out to approx 4.5 pints per person if you have 15 people partaking.

On a typical Friday at (another Pub) I taken in anywhere from 7 to 9 pints of Guinness. And I have met some of these other EF'ers, I would call myself an amateur compared to their likes.

Sounds perfectly doable, but perhaps better with fewer people

How about it, GG?

A local brewer is experimenting on a British style Bitter and once that is good, we hope to install a hand pump. It'll be almost like home.

Sounds like a great place, we will definitely be visiting!

I'll also throw in a request for a sour ale....a Belgium Lambic or the like?

Best of luck!
Plenty of Belgian beers on our list and sours from all over

It's possible that next year we might be able to organise some British cask ales, just a few barrels at a time as specials, I'll keep you posted.

But the big news is, we just passed our final inspection so we have the go-ahead from the health, building dept, fire and police etc and we plan to open fully early next week. Just the last leg now of over a year of planning... filling the fridges, programing the till, printing menus and staff training. I'll confirm the exact opening day asap.

Re: The International Beer Bar - Zürich

We finally open at noon tomorrow. Our 8 taps haven't arrived so we have just Rappi Gold (pale ale) and Rappi IPA on tap and over 130 other beers in bottles.

See you soon for a swift one!

I swung by late Saturday night for a quick Czech pint. The place looks great and the beer was tasty--Look forward to many a beer there!

Can't wait to see the taps installed

Re: The International Beer Bar - Zürich

I was in there Saturday afternoon (actually I blundered in before Grumpy had even opened) - Nice place and already a good selection of beers despite the taps not being there at the moment.

Grumpy even found me a random can of Feldschlossen to satisfy my desire for tasteless beer (beer freaks you'll be relieved to know that Feldschlossen will NOT be for sale there).

I can see myself quaffing the Quollfrisch there once it's on tap.

I reckon this bar is going be quite a success.

Awesome! Will try to swing by one evening this week. Are you planning on continuing the Thursday evening EF tradition at the new plaice?
