Are you planning on continuing the Thursday evening EF tradition at the new plaice? | | | | | | Quote: | | | | Eel certainly encourage it! | | | | | | Quote: | | | | Cod be! | | | | | You and your fish jokes. Stop Carping on about them. We had a Whale of a time last night though. Only one customer complaint from a Sole guy who thought our selection was a load of Pollacks, but he was pretty well Battered by that time.
Not sure how many EFers came by, but we fully packed out so didn't get chance to talk to many customers. If you did, thanks, and I'll try to say hello next time.
Rappi Gold and IPA on tap almost sold out and the temp tap we borrowed for our Pilsner Urquell was not up to the task and almost burnt out under the strain, but our new 8 tap system should arrive on Monday.
You can't read much, but here's a shot of our magnetic menu board, and some of those bottled beer slats will have to be taken down today but we'll have some great bottled Dutch beers arriving by the weekend. | The following 4 users would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post:

I'll probably pop in one night this week to say hello, and have a couple of sherbets.

Duvels, Chimays, Quaks etc have become so hip as to be almost mainstream. | | | | | We'll be getting some unusual Belgian and Dutch beers in the next week or 2, and we're still waiting for our German brews, some of which will be exclusive to us in Switzerland.
We got a great review and 5 stars from Ron Orp this morning so looking forward to another very busy evening. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

This is great news! And about time - I was starting to wonder when the whole microbrew trend happening in Ireland and elsewhere would reach us. Chopfab appearing in a few shops was a false start. I suppose it would take an independent entrepreneurial outsider to break the status quo. Kudos!
Nice to see some familiar brews like O'Haras and even nicer to see the unfamiliar ones! Looking forward to trying them all real soon. | This user would like to thank pmacaodh for this useful post:

Chopfab is actually carried at every Coop I go to, and now coming down in price since it's intro. Almost in the same range as Qoullfrisch.

Number of breweries per capita is irrelevant when there is a dearth of real choice wherever beer is sold. This is what I refer to.

The problem with many conventional pubs and bars is they have tie-in contracts with single suppliers and the Carlsberg / Heinieken duopoly have basically wiped the market. Many people fail to realize exactly how many of their favourite (or not so favourite) brands are in fact owned by these, with most of the rest being owned by Inbev. A lot of the apparent choice some places are offering is in reality different labels from the same supplier. This is not just the case in Switzerland but in most of Europe including the UK.
There have been several well known (and some less well known) places that have been breaking the trend for some time though.
It's not as if you can't get variety if you try.
One of my favourites is Kaiser Franz on Rolandstrasse. But with that one being in walkable distance from Grumpy's new place, there's plenty of opportunity for pub crawls.

Sure, I think it's well known that the large breweries acquired wherever they could. Hence the lack of variety. | Quote: | | | | | There have been several well known (and some less well known) places that have been breaking the trend for some time though.
It's not as if you can't get variety if you try. | | | | | If that is the case, then it has unfortunately not been my experience.
Anyway, thanks for the tip about the other bar.
