| | Gourmet British Food & Beer shop opens in Thalwil, 1st November 2008 Spiffing Ales and the Cheese Club have joined forces to open a Best of British outlet in between Thalwil and Oberrieden - just outside of Zurich. We open to the public on Saturday November 1st from 10.00 until 19.00. Come along for a free tasting of some very special British Farmhouse cheese, and real ale brewed on the premises. 10% discount off all products on sale on the day.
As well as cheese and beer, we will be stocking McVicars English style back bacon and sausages, made in Switzerland by Colin, a selection of hand made pies from our friends at the Pie Shop as well as a range of quality chutney's and crackers. From the end of November we will be enlarging our offer of British produce which will include tea, cakes and biscuits and for Christmas, Christmas puddings and mince pies. We also hope to be stocking hand made chocolates by our friend Jack at Laughing Lemon
At the back of the shop we have a tasting room which will hold up to 20 people for events and workshops. Please contact either Bob or myself for information on booking this space for private events.
The shop will only be open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and early evenings (other times it will be a trade showroom) and for some special events on Saturdays. We will publish any changes to the opening times on our web sites and here as well as news of special events and workshops.
The shop is at 11 Seetsrasse, 8800 just 3 minutes walk from Oberrieden See BH (not the Dorf BH, although that is not that far away either - map below).
We look forward to seeing you there on Saturday 1st November!

At the moment we have just cheese, crackers and pickles (as well as beer of course) but more tasty goodies are on the way, including a great range of tea and Christmas gift sets from Whittards of Chelsea.

Update on tomorrows opening: I have Colin McVicars Back Bacon, black pudding and Chicken Apricot & Peach sausages in stock (yeah, I was also a bit sceptical but had them for dinner the other night and they really are delicious with some fried onions and Picallili). All made by him in Switzerland. Cumberland sausage will be coming soon.
Also Chicken, Pork & Apple and Steak & Kidney pies, all hand made by the Pie Shop.
Bob's beer is a victim to it's own success so the tasting and sales might not last all day
Cheese wise, although I am running low awaiting my Christmas delivery there is plenty of Shropshire Blue, Quickes mature Cheddar, Smart's Double Gloucester, Grandma Singletons Lancashire, Coolea, Gabriel & Killeen from Co Cork, Strathdon Blue and Harbourne Blue. I also have small quantities of most of my other usual cheeses including Lanark Blue, Appleby's Cheshire, Hawes Wensleydale, Sparkenhoe Red Leicester, Lincolnhire Poacher Vintage, Stilton, Swaledale Ewe etc etc
Also plenty of chutneys from Hawkshead, although the Picallily & Chillilli is rapidly dissapearing.
Jack has also left some of his fantastic Laughing Lemon hand made chocolates for a free tasting, we plan on doing a big chocolate day in a couple of weeks time.
Finally, I'm trying to meet Scott this afternoon to collect some of his EF Babes Calanders for sale on the day. I at least will be able to get a quick peek!
Map and some other info on this link (it's a PDF file, Acrobat or similar needed). We take cash and most common credit and bank cards. See you there! Shop Map | The following 4 users would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post: | |
