There'll be lots more at the Viadukt market on Saturday.
There's an article in today's Tages-Anzeiger (page 23) with a picture showing your cheese stand. Also online by Tages-Anzeiger you'll find an article as well with more pictures.

Looks like things were going well for you today, GG - I couldn't get near the counter to say hello!!
Got some pies from behind you instead ... still have a bit of that roasted garlic cheddar ...

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

first day was a massive success i think from what i saw the time i was there.
i witnessed one funny moment from next to the counter: older (ok, really old) swiss couple coming along, turn up their nose when they read: british CHEESE?? (nuts? whats that? how you dare? british cheese in switzerland? jumping off their faceexpression...) center? and uncle max hands them a stilton blini...boom! their eyes go big...and they bought a chunk...priceless!

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

Busy day tomorrow (Saturday 11th September) for cheese lovers.

From 10 - 5 we will be at the International Community Fair in Kilchberg, ZH with Godminster and Westcombe Cheddar, Shropshire Blue, Organic Blue Stilton, mini waxed Swaledales (the posh cousin of Wensleydale), mini waxed Swaledale washed in Old Peculiar (strong dark Yorkshire beer) and some new mini waxed organic Caerphillys.

From 11 - 5 I will be at the Markthalle Trivisiano in Winterthur helping them with a free tasting of their British cheeses selection, the guest cheese this weekend will be Perl Las Bio from Wales, seriously the best blue cheese I have ever brought over.

And from 8-8 at the new Viadukt market in Zurich, it won't be as busy as last Saturday so you'll have time to taste and chat and enjoy a drink at the fabulous bar. We have Grahams Port and a selection of Sam Smiths Yorkshire ales on sale too.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

Hi Mr G!

Glad to hear things got "sorted" re the HB nonsense ( "sorted" being a relative term, of course ).

When Herself wanders by your Viadukt shop with her Colonial visitors during the week (for she is peripatetically proximal to you next week, tho' I remain resolutely remote), please issue her with a couple of the IoM smoky garlicky ones (and extract payment from her, of course!).

Having blown out the IoA smoky garlicky stuff (as you probably anticipated), I'm curious to test whether a well-travelled IoM acquires any different characteristics (insanity, the ability to find brown sugar, outrage over the most trivial things, the ability to cut'n'paste drivel, etc.) from its perhaps more sensible stay-at-homes siblings, during its expeditionary experiences as an expat.

Also, how do I claim the VAT back on them? Can I offset them against tax? Can I live on 15 rappen per decade in Geneva? Why do you sell cheese in a train station? And, most importantly, why is it dark by 9 o'clock now?
.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

Being both Swiss and British - I love both Swiss and British cheeses - funnily enough. Must say I was so pleasantly surprised when I first lived in the UK at the excellent cheeses available. My favourite cheese shops were 'ye Olde cheese shop' in Hartington (Peak District) and the amazing place near Borough Market, Southwark. Having lived in Stilton country for a very long time - it is on my MUST shopping list when we go to the UK. But as a Jura girl, I also love our Jura cheese- very similar to Gruyères. But remember that Gruyère, like cheddar, can vary a great deal. For 2 years running, the Gruyère cheese from La Brévine (Neuchatel Canton) has won the Gold Medal at the World Cheese Championships in ... Wisconsin. Anyway - enjoy all the best cheeses, wherever they come from- as long as they are excellent. Bon ap-

And don't forget to tell us if and when you come to Suisse Romande, especially to Neuchatel or Yverdon area. Well done for your brilliant stall.

We've been trying to get to Neuchatel for ages, let us know if you hear of any suitable events we could join. We will be near Bern this coming Sunday from 1 - 5 at Artplace88, I have a few customers who make the journey from your neck of the woods.

We're at the Zurich HB market again today from 10 - 8 and our Gorwydd Caerphilly is down to 5.20 / 100 gr from 6.50. Same at the Viadukt market.

Although never one to blow my own trumpet , we did get a half page full colour photo in this Sundays NZZ am Sonntag in the article about the new Viadukt (thanks to AbFab for the heads up). Apparently Fiona Heftis thought I was rather charming . Well, she is very sweet so I was on my best behaviour.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

We're at both Zurich markets again today and Gorwydd Caerphilly is still on special offer. We are very low on the Godminster waxed cheddar but a little will be available "under the counter", just ask and there may be some left. We'll also have some Clotted Cream at both markets too.

We're back again at Moevenpick Wine in Zug this coming Saturday, about 40 wines will be open for tasting (I was there last Saturday and they even opened a Vega Sicilia Unico Especial at 390.00 chufs for me to taste!), I'll have about 8 cheeses too.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

A new delivery is arriving this afternoon so there will be lots of new cheese at the Viadukt market tomorrow. Plenty of Godminster in 200 gr round and hearts and 400gr rounds and the amazing Perl Las BIO blue from Wales.

On Saturday we're offering free Stilton and port tasting all day again.

Cheers Grumpy,
Another excellent day for dropping by the Viadukt for mooching and buying lots of food I didn't need and some yummy cheeses too. A real bonus with the port too!

Just tucking in to some of that Perl Las... FANTASTIC

I hope the Basel Ploughmans goes well

Yep. The oktoberfest tents were still there this morning when I was passing. Normally the market would be being setup around that time. I guess you're going to have to wait for the garlic cloves, or try your luck at the Viadukt.

Viadukt is sadly a no-go. I did ask the olive lady a while ago if she had a stall somewhere else but I can't remember what she said.

You can get them Kreuzplatz too. Their market is on Wednesdays too, closing up around 6pm I believe.
