The ZH HB market has started again today and we've just had a big delivery. Godminster is back!

.... and the HB market is back again today. Lots of very special raw milk blue cheeses, as well as Westcombe and Isle of Mull cheddars. And our best selling Godminster BIO Cheddar of course. My handsome wing man has plenty of 200 and 400gr heart shaped cheeses for Valentines Day and they're sure to sell out before the big day, you have been warned

Does your handsome wing man have a special request that your lovely m-i-l promised me on Monday?

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

My handsome Wing man is back at the HB today with lots of the best selling Godminster Hearts for Monday.

A new delivery due in this weekend which include the following:

Swladeale Blue. A firm rich blue from my favourite Yorkshire dale (waxed sheeps cheese is also coming from them)
Quantock Blue sheep is making its debut along side it's more famous sisters Exmoor, Somerset and Partridges blues (all raw Jersey milk)
Lancashire is also coming again, both "Tasty" and "Creamy"
Stinking Bishop is now becoming a regular, although because of the consistency, we can not post this cheese (the Post may also complain about the smell!)
Two other raw soft cheeses Wigmore (sheep) and Waterloo (Guernsey) are also back and we hope to have these almost every month.
White Lake soft goat from the same stable as Rachel, Nancy and Driftwood
Berkswell, a hard sheeps cheese from the Midlands (a friend of mine is starting to produce an English Hazlenut Pesto with this cheese!)

Old favourites such as King Richard III, Sparkenhoe Red Leicester and super spicy Vintage, Gorwydd Caerphilly, Cornish Yarg and Perl Las BIO.

Orkney Oatcakes are back and for the first time Bath Olivers and a selection of gourmet crackers and wafers from the Bath Fine Cheese Company. And also for the first time we will have some Jersey Black Butter - not actually butter but a very rich and dark preserved apple purée, fantastic with cheese!

Grumpy can usually be found at the Viadukt market hall, although there's often a queue of ladies waiting to touch the hem of his garment. The chap at the HB Wednesday speciality market is but a pale imitation of the Handsome Grapefruit, but he does try. Be nice to him and he'll flash his killer smile. Or is it kill his flasher smile? I can never remember.

Ah, I usually go the the HB one. I'm sure both have an equal orderly queue of ladies! (See, I'm so diplomatic).

An elderly German lady saw our display of Cheddars at the Viadukt and told my handsome wing man this story.

"The last (and only) time I had cheddar cheese I was 10 years old. It was at my family home in Hamburg in 1945 just after the end of the Second World War. My father was a judge and he disappeared during the war so i was alone with my mother. Allied troops were coming through the city searching the houses and I could sense how frightened my mother was. As the troops approached our house she put me under the kitchen table and put a large table cloth over it to hide me. She told me to stay silent and even if the soldiers took her away I was not to make a sound. I could see the boots and parts of guns of the soldiers and i could hear them shouting in a foreign language.

At this point I was terrified and started screaming. The table cloth was lifted up and the arms of a soldier reached towards me. I thought he was going to kill me, but he wasn't. He was an English soldier and he was offering me a piece of cheddar cheese to calm me down"

She took away 300 gr of Westcombe cheddar and said that that evening she wanted to remember the English soldier who was so nice to her all those years ago. We did wonder if she was also going to crawl under the table for the "full experience". She has since been back many times but we have yet to ask her!

This quote just made my otherwise complete failure of a day! Thanks

...so I have to ensure I have plenty of Cornish Yarg there that day.

Speaking of which, Yarg is at the HB Market today, as is Clotted Cream, Wensleydale, Lancashire "Creamy" and "Tasty" and Duddleswell BIO sheep is also back together with Driftwood goat and ash log and Alex James' "Little Wallop" (he of Blur fame). Plenty of the other usual suspects too.

A new delivery has just been made to Jelmoli in Zurich and the recently refurbished Markthalle Trivisiano in Winterthur had a big delivery on Monday. If you do go there BTW, try the Chorizo (it's usually in a tray on top of the cheese counter). I know my chorizo and this is one of the best I have ever had.
