Please bring Chorizo when you come to Basel.... | | | | | well it's not from me but if I am in Winterthur the week before I will try to remember. It's fantastic sliced, fried (poor off some of the fat to add to roast potato's, then braised in heavy red wine, when reduced, mop up the juices with crusty bread. It's almost better than cheese.

So that was you speeding was it? (I was running late and must have been shifting).
We have the spiciest cheese in the world, or so we reckon, at the Zurich HB market today. Quantock Blue is made in Exmoor with raw sheeps milk, the texture is slightly strange, akin to chewing gum, and the flavour is like chewing black pepper corns and fresh red chillies at the same time.
Of course, lots of Godminster and a very good Westcombe PDO Cheddar are there for the less insane cheese eaters.
Also at the HB today is a copy of Sundays NZZ am Sonntag where I got a full page story with big colour photo about me and my cheese selling exploits in the "Swiss Milk Land". I'll be along there from 6 - 8 pm to sign autographs, and have a quiet beer no doubt. Unfortunately the article is not on-line, but I'll post a PDF of the page when they get round to sending one to me.

That is, there is no Basel event this weekend for anyone. Not that there is an event, but only FB friends are invited. It's just that he announced it on FB. | This user would like to thank mirfield for this useful post: | |

I only saw the last 10 minutes, some brummy chef who insisted on saying everything was "fantastic" while the camera jerked around the kitchen filming him frying a steak from behind wine and oil bottles.
He made some interesting blue cheese bonbons (small mashed potato balls mixed with an orange blue cheese then deep fried) to serve with a steak garnished with rocket (but insisted the dish was a classic British dish). Maybe I missed the important bit but he didn't even say what the cheese was, just kept calling it "British Blue". It looked like Blacksticks Blue which is available at supermarkets....
I rarely watch TV anymore and seeing the last 10 mins of this program reminded me why. A friend (actually from EF, but I won't embarres her by naming ) was in the UK and saw loads of these cooking programs which were actually really inspiring. She then saw a supermarket where people were loading trollies full with ready prepared junk food.
She said British TV food programs are food p o rn... people like to watch what they don't get at home.
Still, at least there has been one TV show talking about British cheese, so I shouldn't be so grumpy.

A West Yorkshire soft cheese used for a cheesecake. Montgomery Unpasteurised Cheddar for baked cheddar custard and Butlers Lancashire Blue for the cheese bonbons.
They focussed on cheddar as it accounts for more than 50% of all sales and that British cheeses can be used in place of most foreign cheeses.
As you mentioned, a fair amount of the time was taken with the show cooking.

Golden Cenarth, the British Champion cheese has just arrived again and is at the Viadukt now, if we have any left (we only got 30) we'll take them to the HB market next Wednesday. Also from Carwyn Adams is his exceptional Perl Las Bio, just about the best blue cheese we have ever had. We also have his baby Bio Caerfily cheese again, very sweet and fresh. |

My handsome wing man is away this week so I'm looking after the Zurich HB market today. My special today is Partridges Blue from Exmoor, a more spicy version of the raw Jersey Exmoor Blue. I also have Waterloo, a very soft and creamy raw Guernsey milk cheese from Berkshire. Rappi Gold and Blackbier is also cool enough to drink |
