Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

Just so you know that I DO appreciate and make use of your expanded product range: I got the crumpets this week. In your absence.

And other goodies. No clotted cream or Bluemin White though. Ah well .... next time.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

A few dates for your diaries Cheesy Peeps.

This Saturday 14th March will be Gintastic Saturday. I'll have 6 different Gins and Gin Liquors to taste for free from 13.00 - 18.00. And when you've found your favourite we'll be serving the best value G&T's in Zürich all afternoon until 20.00. London Dry Gin & T for 10.00 and our speciality G&T's for only 12.00.

We'll also be serving Tiptree Gin Liquors with English Sparkling wine for 15.00 a glass.

................................

Then Saturday 28th March we'll have a free tasting of Beer and Cheese. Six great pairings including our own beer Prince of Ales with a modern fruity Cheddar, IPA with a traditional raw milk Somerset Cheddar and an Imperial Stout with Blue Stilton.

................................

And on Saturday July 11th we'll be showing the Wimbledon Ladies Final on TV and we'll be serving Strawberries and Cream, Scones, Pimm's and English Sparkling Wine.

Details aren't final yet, but if you come dressed for the "occasion" there will be some freebies and some prizes for the most imaginative costumes. I'll post more details later!

................................

The British Cheese Centre and Beer and Beer Corner are in the Markthalle im Viadukt, Limmatstrasse 231, 8005. Right next to tramstop Löwenbrau and there's plenty of visitor parking too!

You can always make them fresh yourself. Although time consuming, they are pretty straightforward. But frozen ones are the best bet here unless you can fly fresh ones in from the UK.

That would be new. I basically have to budget an additional Fr. 40.00 to my shopping with you every time.

Do you mean July 11th? Or are you showing a re-run of last year’s final?

Most people thaw them before eating them.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

An update about my cheese shop after yesterdays announcement.

The Markthalle im Viadukt will remain open (although all of the other arches in the Viadukt will be closed). We are not seen as a market per se (and all markets are now closed), but more a food hall of individual food shops. But my small beer bar in the markthalle is now closed, we can sell food and beer to go, but they cannot be consumed on the premises. All of the public tables and stools in front of my shop have been removed.

At the moment the opening hours of 09.00 - 20.00 Mon - Sat stay the same, but we are looking at the possibility of reducing those hours slightly to help save some staff costs to offset the loss of sales at the bar.

We're updating the web shop today, first thing we have done is to offer free shipping on all orders over 40.00 (it was 75.00). Stock is rather low at the moment but I'm hoping to get some new deliveries this week and next week. At the moment border controls are not stopping commercial deliveries, but of course that could happen at some point.

Thanks for everyone here who has supported my over the last 13 years, this will be our toughest period so far, but hopefully we will pull through at the end of April.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

Just another small update. Yesterday was very quiet of course at the Market so we've been busy adding other products to the web shop such as Cheese Platters that you can order online and collect from the shop to enjoy at home, so you don't have to wait around.

We'll also be selling our Prince of Ales YPA from the tap. Bring in your own containers or buy one of our International Beer Bar "Growlers". The One LiterGrowlers cost 35.00 each (but can be used over and over again at any bar that sells beer like this) and the YPA is 12.50 / liter (normal tap price 18.75).

Friday we'll also be getting some freshly baked Hot Cross Buns - they'll be in sealed packs of 6 - price will be confirmed Friday.

We're also requesting card only payments if possible.

......................

And finally, a very Swiss story. We had more than 3 visits from Swiss couples yesterday who came in and made a small purchase from every shop in the market - just to support us. So sweet!

That's exactly why I just placed an order yesterday (plus the cheese, ofc). But seriously: we HAVE to support the small shops that we love, especially in times of crises, or we lose them. Simple as that. I know I pay at least 10% more than when I buy online every time I buy from my local music shop, but if I don't, it'll disappear sooner than later.

Re: The British Cheese Centre of Switzerland

New for Easter, I've just got my first batch of Hot X Buns. They're baked by Legends pies in Flims and I'll get them fresh every Friday from now until Easter. They're in sealed packs of 6, have a 7 day shelf life (although can be frozen) and cost 12.50 for 6.

You can order on-line for posting next week or to pick up from the Viadukt (best order on-line too so yours will be reserved)

Picked up a pack of these on Friday, my wife and son enjoyed them immensely.

Sorry, we had a big rush on them so I reduced the stock level on the web shop. But we do have a few packs from last weeks stock and we get more fresh on Thursday which I can post out then. I've upped the stock levels again!

Thanks. The check out has always been in English with some German bits, but recently we changed it to German with some English bits. I can't have the check out in 2 languages unless I pay for 2 different checkout sites, and it's complicated enough for me as it is!

Any tips for re-heating the hot cross buns from frozen?

You can just leave them to thaw on the counter top like any bread. Doesn't take long. Or, as we prefer, cut in half and grill them on a low to moderate heat.
