| | Man with a van Luzern + Zurich area from 60CHF ph
I have an English plated Toyota van with me here in Switzerland and am looking to put it to good use while i have it. It is Transit size and is perfect for furniture removals/house clearances/pick-up drop-off etc etc.
I am based in Luzern but am willing to travel anywhere in Switzerland where needed.
The cost of the van + loader/driver.... basically me, is 50 chf per hour which i hope is a reasonable rate. This rate includes my time to drive to destination and time to complete whatever work needs doing. My drive back to Luzern will not be charged to you.
Private message me for any quotes you might need.
Thanks
John

I have used John on numerous occasions already (in my short time here) and I truly thank him for everything he has done.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his services to everybody out there. He is polite, prompt, professional, very friendly and most importantly he is available at short notices (incl. Sundays) and he is very reasonably priced.
John is a very nice person and he has helped my family and I turn a simple apartment into a true home.
Thank you John and may GOD Bless.

Many thanks for that Ally, I feel like i`ve done a lot more than just move furniture now!
Hope you and the family are settling in nicely
And just to update the post... I seem to be getting quite a bit of work delivering and building Ikea/office/ household furniture (mostly in Zurich and Basel but do travel further) so if you are in need of these services, please don`t hesitate to call or message me.
many thanks
John

John helped me two weeks ago to move wardrobes from Zurich to Luzern, helped collapse them and move them across. John and his red van is highly highly recommended!

Do you still have the van here in Switzerland with you and do you expect to still have it here in January 2011? I hope to be moving from Killwangen (Aargau) to Stein Saeckingen (Aargau).
Are your rates still the same as in your post?
Thanks

Many thanks for all your kind words guys
I`m spending half my time in the Bern/Biel area now (as well as Luzern) and I am looking for work in these areas also, so if you need any help with removals/deliveries or need a `man with a van`, don`t hesitate to get in touch for a quote.

John hoped me with a small move from Zurich to Zurich last month. My back had gone out and I couldn't lift a thing. John showed up when he said he would and cheerfully took take of everything. His rate was substantially lower than a local Zurich firm quoted even though he had to drive in from out of town.

Could someone PM me John's number please. I have PMed him, but I am looking for someone on a very short notice, so getting a bit worried. Gregory, Nathan and Papa Goose are not available, so am looking for someone else who would be available in Zurich this week.

First time when I read this thread it seemed to be too sweet. I am really sceptical so I asked every EF member (from this thread) about the experience with John. They all (except one whom I just did not reach) confirmed it was great. Today I can say the same - all written here is true. He is nice, proffessional, works quickly, prices honestly, helps with everything.
I think we r really lucky that he is here with his lovely van.
Many thanks to you, John!

I would like to recommend this service for house moving too. We have just moved our entire apartment with the help of John and his Van. 9 hours, loads of lifting and really hard work, and not once - ever - did we get anything but cheerful and productive help. Total cost: 500 CHF (including transport). Nearest quote from a swiss company: 2000 CHF.
I cannot recommend this service highly enough. Also, it is worth pointing out we were moving from Montreux to nearby, so John is not limited to the German part as he has said.
Mike

More feedback on John who did a job for me at the beginning of the month.
John is a pleasant and industrious chap who is good craic and isn't afraid of grafting, or travelling, however:
The van is not the biggest, and when I used John for a customer of mine moving from Baar to Geneva another vehicle had to be drafted in, which was strange as I moved the girl the 1st time and it all went in a SWB tranny' van and she didn't move her bed or book case this time.
His vehicle had no blankets or ropes to protect/secure things in transit (maybe he'd forgotten to put them in), and the back door did not open, so loading was not as easy as it could be and took a longer having to manoeuvre things in through the side, and a couple empties and reloads to needed to maximise the lack of space. The van is still on UK plates and insured there when I asked him. In the event of damage therefore (no breakages, and 1 item had a scuff that the girl wasn't bothered about) I'm not sure what would have been the situation, especially regarding the fact that the van was in commercial use at the time, and Swiss professional indemnity was not mentioned.
John is indeed cheap as someone pointed out, and we agreed CHF 400 for 8 hours work. He did want this in cash immediately, but did accept payment via bank t/x, and there was a delay in payment of 10 days or so, which was my fault as I had incorrectly noted his details. However, nearly 2 weeks after making the payment when I asked for an invoice/reciept, was told that would be an additional CHF 200! So the CHF 50 is for a cash in hand payment without invoice, CHF 75 for an invoice.... from that you may draw your own conclusions.
He had also informed me he had taken a DJ'ing gig in Bern that night, which meant that he would not return to Zug to drop me off, so I would have had to make my own way back. This was an unplanned inconvenience, but no drama as the other another vehicle solved the issue but this cost could not be passed on to the customer as the job had been priced.
I also gave him a moving job for the following day, which he cancelled via a 7 word SMS less than 2 hours before the job, this again left last minute van issues, and as it was a Friday getting a replacement was impossible, so I had to cancel. Having to reschedule and source another van increased the cost which could not be passed on the the customer, and the receiving guy had taken the afternoon off work specifically for the delivery, so he wasn't best pleased.
Some folk have used John and had a good experience, and he seems busy enough which is great. My 2 experience weren't so hot and I ended up out of pocket as a result, so there won't be a 3rd. Which is a pity as I regularly have jobs (I have passed on 2 small pick up and drops this week) that require 'man and van' type services, and I prefer to put them to EF'ers if at all possible, and John service would have fitted the bill nicely.

Thank you papa Goose for that detailed, slightly inaccurate account of the days events.
Seeing as how you are in the same business, I will put it down to experience and wish you well |

Just to echo others' reviews here. I used John's services twice; once to move my things from Zurich to Geneva storage (unaccompanied) and then from Geneva to the UK when I accompanied him on the long journey back through France and via Calais/Dover to the Midlands.
Everything was absolutely fine. The price was definitely reasonable and I paid the same price to go from Geneva to the Midlands as I was quoted by others to go from Zurich to Geneva. John did exactly what he said he would do, turned up on time, carried all of my boxes (I had a jogging injury at the time) and even managed to find a storage park in the middle of nowhere near Geneva.
I'd happily use John again although this time I've arrived in Geneva with 2 suitcases so not required just yet.
