Re: People who talk about the telly

there's no shame in watching it if you like it, i just can't sit still long enough to get into most programs and we have almost no channels here. but i hear you about the homesick part b/c it keeps you connected to where you're from and what's going on there- esp in tv centered cultures like the uk or us.

but i understand the complaint of going on about shows to someone who doesn't watch- i have a friend who has an unhealthy obsession with america's next top model () and when we speak she tells me about these people and i get really confused with whether they are people on the show or actual friends of hers () not to mention the fact that i don't watch it- i'd prefer to hear about her life, but she thinks that the show is more interesting than her own life, or else she wouldn't go on about it. it's weird to tell her something and hear, "oh, that's sounds just like kayla on america's next top model, she's so much like that too!" ()

if you talk about your kids to friends and family- i'm sure they wanna hear about them, they know them, love them, etc, esp if they are far away and missing all the funny and special moments with them. i think funny kid stories are the best entertainment ever- but then again i'm a mommy too

Come on DB, you're still on a lovely honeymoon.
Your friend just might be living her life by proxy via the tube, because she's really bored, or she's lonely.

Re: People who talk about the telly

I think you got off lucky DB. When I call home I get the full gamut of dross.

From my mother I get the "sorry, not now luv Strictly come dancing's on.. brrrrrrrr" conversations or the "did you remember so and so, well they have two weeks to live" conversations.

From my brother I get the verbatim spiel of some comedy show. Which is worse that actually talking about soaps. Yes, thanks Brother, if I wanted Frank Skinner one liners I would go straight to the horses mouth...brrrrrr

From my son
me: "hi son"
him: "what do you want?"
me: "Well it's Easter and I've not spoken to you since christmas"
him, "ah right, you ok then?"
me: "yes, are you?"
him "Yes... is that it?"
me, "yes"
him "ok, bye"

And yes, my family make the Windors look normal!

Thank goodness for those 1000 miles and the fact I can now hang up and blame it on the "lost" skype connection!!

I'm sure I've seen the Viadukt in the Britain's Got Talent worst auditions special edition.

Sounds like a perfectly normal father-son relationship/discussion where I come from (North Yorkshire)...

Re: People who talk about the telly

Why is this thread in this forum please?

I know that DB will shortly be canonised and is thus beyond criticism, but this has nothing to do with Switzerland, does it?

Nothing wrong with the thread or the OP by the way, but having occasionally been frustrated by the sometimes anal application of the Big Book of Rules, and having read about newbies being confused by the mods.....was just wonderin' why its not off-topic?

(a cynic might think its all about post and thanks counts )

You know I heard on the telly that DB was sleeping with one of the mods, that might have something to do with it

For me it's quite relevant to living in Switzerland because a lot of us experience this. I know that when I return home my brother's family will go on and on about people and programs I've never heard of. It makes you see how the telly seems to rule a lot of peoples lives in the UK.

We should get them on Jeremy Kyle and do a DNA test to prove it once and for all!

Hold on a second... you're not interested in people telling you about things they watch on telly, BUT...

You think we'd be interested in knowing the things that don't interest you?
Just saying...
