I personally don't give a rat's ass what most people think about my shape or looks or disposition. And I tell them as much if they insist on airing their opinions anyway. I don't recall too many second attempts... | | | | | Usually I don't give a mokey's what people think about my appearance, if you don't like what you see, then don't effing look. But remarks from your nearest and dearest can hurt. A lot.

Ignore them | | | | | One of the more recent ones was actually lying in my bed, a bit hard to ignore. That's where I really wonder "what the HELL are you thinking?!". I was too shocked at the time to say something and changed the subject, then had a go at him about it the next day. Boy did that bring on some world class backpedalling... Too late though, I feel comments like that are like poison, they fester away and you can't "unsay it".

Wait for couple of days and then say (even if its not true): "you know, I hate to bring this up again, but your comment that day really stung. I mean, I've made allowances for your penis size and I didnt want to hurt you by saying it out loud. Surely you can too? "

As for not going down to their level , Well I could go down to levels they've never heard of and it makes me feel better | | | | | Another interesting thing is that most people who love dishing it out, can't take it themselves, or get really shocked if one surreptitiously does, un-phased. They get so busy about that hurtful comment that they obviously prepared for weeks, that it throws them off guard when people are not willing to fall in pieces..."you need an upgrade of your fatso jokes, really, let me email you some new ones" might also shut them up, while you are walking away hollering "hey, uncle Rich, have you heard this tasteless fat joke aunt Millie just told me, weight seems to be on her mind a lot"...
But then, you might not see much of them no mo, after this, so, it's always a risk.

Back on to more "seriös" trains of conversation, my stepfather's family is obsessed with weight, yet they all struggle with it. So whoever is fattest at that time gets hell, until I basically did what MathNut did and made a huge scene. It's calmed down since, now the nasty comments are behind each others backs. Much better, I'm sure! |

I was chubby since I was about 13. I got used to the comments, friends and acquaintances alike would dig at it like crazy; short and fat not a good combination.
I lost A LOT of weight since I arrived in CH, enough to see those people again and have their jaws drop. As musickchick said, some of them cannot take it when the tables turn; I've lashed out some pretty hard comments on those who commented on me back then.
Yes, I Can hold a grudge.... and now I can hold a choke too, so don't fü€k with me. (unless you are a pretty girl, then u can)

I would personally never dream of uttering such a crass and thoughtless comment.
Honest.

Plus that would only bring on "fat girls try harder" comments. Ok, maybe we need to not be quite so offensive, don't want to incur the wrath of Mod. |
