I love animals but I can tell you I was tempted to buy a bb gun. Turns out sprinkling orange peels did the job. No more cat.
Thanks for the tip - also heard (and tried) that old coffee grounds have the same effect - can't really comment on level of success though - just smells a bit like Starbucks - which is preferable to the alternative.
Also toiled with the idea of military-type action, but, having been talked out of an air-pistol/rifle (by the wife), settled for a pump-up water gun - again not much success - not quick enough.
In the end (like fools), we coughed up CHF150+ for an electrical device that emits high-pitched tone (supposed to cat specific/dog friendly). Material cost (plastic housing and a pcb, plus I.R. movement sensor) is probably about CHF20, but as the company from which we order has cornered the market, they can charge what they like. It seems to work, but only having one unit to cover a large area, doesn't.

Re: Clean up after your dog!!!!

Theres no excuse for not picking up after your dog. I always did in the UK and its something I do as a responsible dog owner. I get sooooo peeved when I see other deposits, no matter where it is. From my experience, I can tell whether they are going to go and normally they are predictable in terms of time of day and even area, as they have a good routine (doesn't always work hence the poo bags in every coat and handbag I own!)

Problem is, that this is now a "marked" spot - every passing dog will sniff there and feel obliged to claim that spot as his own, by posting his calling card. Although I have a dog myself, and wouldn't suggest doing anything unpleasant or harmful, maybe as you pass the spot, daily, make a small sprinkling of pepper, to put them off sniffing --- c'mon folks, it ain't that bad - I sniff p-p-p-pepperrrrr, and it hasn't done me any harm.
A little OT, but this reminded me of it. My Dad had a little dog who would eat his own little piles . This was in an enclosed yard- so no danger to pedestrians and he kept it clean but it was like the dog would hide it for later. Anyway, he hatched an evil plan, and bought a large bottle of Tobasco. Went out one morning and doused everything he could find. Cured the dog. The best part is, he realized his neighbor was watching him as he sprinkled the last mound... that must have looked sane as hell.

Coffee grinds are good for the soil anyway and will keep away the mosquitoes if you have a bit of swampy bit or places were still water collects. Or at least that is what we are told down here when the mosquito season comes and the dengue follows.
They also are supposed to change the color of hydrangeas.

Once the cat is gone you could probably sell on the electric device. I'm glad we both didn't go down the air gun route & kept to the high road! LOL.

(ooopps, sorry to go OT!)

Re: Clean up after your dog!!!!

In the pedestrian underpass at Bhf. Wädenswil, I once witnessed an old lady inattentively walking her dog (no leash, it was just dawdling behind her). Then the dog started pooping right in the underpass. Luckily, many people saw this and someone else called the old lady back to take care of the mess, so I didn't have to be the confrontationist.

As a former () dog owner, I never understood why people couldn't just clean up. I mean, sure, when my dog was running around off the paths in rural woods, I let him go wherever, but I always made sure that he never left any land mines for anyone.
