Swiss TV: Why can it not be a bit better?

Ok, I'll make it short:

Swiss TV "fight of the choirs", already one of the best shows they had the last year:

Argentinian version of "Dance with the stars":

You are comparing Swiss and Argentinian dancers. I call that being unreasonnable. And Argentinians suck at Alpenhorn anyway.

It looks like they have a different brand of Catholicism in Argentina.

Re: Swiss TV: Why can it not be a bit better?

Friend of mine was(is?) a producer at SF. I once asked him a similar question (why not a lot better?).

His answer was "^%$^$!!! I don't want to talk about it."

I take it that you don't ever watch Italian TV.

I agree with Tom, Italian television is pretty dire.

Re: Swiss TV: Why can it not be a bit better?

Switzerland is a tiny market, and split into 3 (4) languages - very difficult to get the funding. Basically British TV is 1000000s times better than any other TV - even now (but how long for?).

Re: Swiss TV: Why can it not be a bit better?

Treverus, thank you for reminding me why I banished the telly. I'd forgotten how cringeworthy much of what is on offer on Swiss TV* is. That was truly, astonishingly, awful.

(I'd like to have my 5 minutes and 22 seconds back, please. )

* In the interest of fairness, cringeworthyness is not unique Swiss TV.

Is that a rhetorical question?

Swiss TV is bland and uninspired.

I think in general British TV is good quality, but the best comedy and drama series still come from the US. The UK has produced nothing to the standard of Breaking Bad or Friday Night Lights.

Re: Swiss TV: Why can it not be a bit better?

I don't have a television OR a radio and I still have to pay Billag!
I don't know where that money goes, but from what you are all saying, it isn't going to produce anything worth watching.
And that choir show thingy you posted was painful!

She appears to have a computer and that counts as both TV and radio. Mobile phone probably as well.

Actually funding shouldn't be the issue - think how much you pay Billag plus all the advertising. I could well imagine SF generates as much as, say, C4 in the UK but the value for that money is pretty poor in comparison imo. Their own production mainly consists of talk shows and game shows, both of which are pretty cheap by TV standards to produce. The rest is imports, sport and news which, apart from the news, should also be relatively inexpensive given the small market and monopoly supplier that SF is.

It does try to spread itself too thinly - why, for example, does TSI operate 2 channels for the relatively tiny Italian population.

BTW agree 100% on British TV. Unequalled anywhere else including most US output.

Just my luck, we get English language channels here and they're from England??

Not that Im against English tv or humor, but its not the only representation of the English speaking world.

Because we don't want to have to watch sports and other programs in German! (really, we don't!)

Also, the programming is better than SF
