Right, but it's not consensual and rarely done in good spirits. Malice is often behind it, not hibernal jollility. I do not take kindly to the possibility of having icey snowballs smashed in my face, without a 'let the games commence' nod of approval, and will counter with a faster-than-you-can-run chase and verbal bollocking. That's rarely expected and results in grovelling pants wetting. Yes, it happens way too often for my liking.

I wouldn't dare lob a snowball at a stranger as a kid. It wasn't sport.

...and you got a Groan cos RSS nicely worded query hardly warrants a groan itself. Maybe a sarcastic comment.

Our local school continually tells kids not to throw snowballs at cars and windows, and any caught doing so are punished. They've had the police in to speak to the kids after complaints from motorists.

Still goes on though, year after year, snowfall after snowfall.

My car was hit twice in our street with snowballs. Last time I turned around, got out of the car, walked up to the area where they came from, waited a little bit in silence (they thought I left, hahaha!) and then I talked to them.
I told the kids that this is very dangorous, the car could be broken, I couldhit someone, and next time I call the police (which is 3 corners away) and I want to talk to their parents.
At that time they seemed to understand it and they were ashamed.
I hope they really finish it....

And what about these British kids having a 'lark'? Sounds funny from the headline, but quite awful really when you think about.

Air ambulance stopped from Swansea landing by snowballs

No,I'm back and forth between London and Switzerland.
This happens in Switzerland.
Police will act WHEN and IF some damage has occurred. But please realize that most of those policemen did the same when being young, so that part of their sympathies are with the rascals in question

Eternity is eternity ! It only is different if you have an older brother known for his ways of arguments. When I came to a place where they had a snowball battle from across both sides of the way, they stopped when I appeared and those with me could get through unmolested with me, and after my "passage" the battle restarted. None there wanted to get into touch with the arguments mentioned !

Why ? Because they are aware that their fathers do NOT like to get liability claims !

Sorry, but calling the cops on a bunch of kids horsing around has nothing to do with "nice".

Clearly, you need to nuke them from orbit. It's the only way to be sure and, with the right uplink hardware, you need never leave your car or apartment and interact with the little blighters!

Nobody is condoning Robertson Davies style "rock in the snowball" stupidity, but let's not forget we are talking about kids, i.e. children/teenagers, i.e. not adults and, therefore, by definition, not responsible.

I bet you're up at the window going all purple on them, aren't you?

If you just ignored it, they would get bored; it's your Meldrew reaction that they're feeding off.

How are you supposed to integrate into society if you don't call the police ever?

Yes. I did it when I was a kid, so I sympathise. Doesn't make it right though. I still tell my kids not to throw snowballs at windows or (moving) cars. Especially the latter because it is dangerous. Our police seem to agree with this.

In the context of the original question... you would say "kids are throwing snowballs at my window and I'm concerned that they'll break them". You may or may not have noticed, or perhaps it just doesn't happen where you live, but police here tend to be rather more community minded and do deal with "trivial" social issues. The advantage of this attitude of being part of, and looking after the security and peace of the community, is that when a kid got hit by a car a few metres away from the school a few months ago, the police were there in minutes and the motorist (who'd tried to abscond), was apprehended and had the proverbial book thrown at him.

Rooftop snipers, flame throwers and nuking the site from orbit. The solution to 99% of life's little annoyances.

A: Where can i buy this ?!

B: let kid's be kid's, as long as they don't do what they did in Dublin, putting rocks or golf balls inside the snowball and hurl it at passing car's and busses.
It left a nice dent in our old car and no kid to bee seen.

When i say old car, we then had bought it 4 months before winter so the " new car smell" was still in it..
evil little ******* the joys of Tallaght..

Or you can go Dwight Schrute on them..(at 1.30min) fight back with their own weapons !

Re: Snowball harrassment

The word harrassment does seem to start to resonate here. Also mention "local school" when you report. I would use it, stay completely unemotional and do it in person. There is a desk at our cops that take these kinds of report, you show up, report and leave the same thing in a written form as well, addressed to them with a copy to the local school director.

Re: Snowball harrassment

This is not considered a snow ball fight. Yes I did throw snowballs at buses when I was a kid (I don't do it any more) (I swear) (really don't) but if anyone would have talked to me and let me know that this is wrong and very dangerous I would have stopped it.
For example we stopped watering the street and the tram cable behind bushes when someone came to us and told us not to do it.

I teach my daughter to throw snowballs at trees, walls and lampposts where there is no danger of hitting someone or a window.

I would not suggest that kids are bad I would only say they are not aware of the consequences.

I would definitely talk to the head master AND the police.
I would not make an "Anzeige" but at least ask them if they could do anything (= talk to the kids) to stop it.
If you can identify the kids the teachers will have a chat with them at the school.
As next step the police will have a chat to them.
If they do a damage it is not on your insurance but their parents have to pay for it.

"I've collared the gobby 15 yrs old so&so who - along with his eight mates - chucked a snowball at me as I was coming out of Coop and he's cacking himself. My CHF1100 handmade Japanese spectacles were knocked off and damaged, the CHF550 lenses scratched and I'm pretty sure this kid has no idea what trouble he'll be in if you don't get here pronto presto and I have to settle the matter".

Or somesuch.

Unless of course we agreed in advance to 'play' together.

(Seriously, when did I become middle aged? )
