They do also have a "big & beautiful" range - which starts at size 42 - I know you probably don't want to buy stuff from there, but the thing is, clothes that fit you properly are always always more flattering - and make you look thinner - than the ones you try to squeeze into because you want to be that size.
Oh, I couldn't give two hoots about that! I am in between sizes and tend to opt for the bigger size because I feel more comfortable in them, so my humility is not an issue! My boyfriend actually just told me he thinks I should buy more pairs of 42s because he thinks they look better on me

Thanks for all the suggestions (and letting me have a little rant!). I'll have another little potter about town maybe tomorrow, hopefully I won't come back feeling quite so downtrodden.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Esprit.. lovely shaped jeans.

Zymogen is correct, it really is worth shopping in Holland, UK and Germany. Women are just as slim, but taller, as a result clothes and lingerie too fits nicely.

I get quite upset shopping in France and Spain, clothes look as if they're made for dolls. Germany and the UK are just

Yeah, it is a bit of a curse being big (not just tall but big build and carrying a little junk in the trunk). I've been having problems trying to find shoes to fit my enormous clown feet, too...

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Oh god don't get me started on shoes - I'm a size "slightly bigger than a 41" or "sometimes a 42". Apparently when you have feet that size you turn into an 80 year old grandmother. And the assistants that stare at you and say "oh, I can order them". [Yes but what if they don't actually fit after you ordered them?? ]

And boots. Sigh. Boots....

Back home in SA my height is average.. Over here I'm short. I battle with trousers as I ALWAYS have to take the freakin hem in as they are always too long!
Shoes, hmm, I like to compare my feet to Ninja Turtle feet.. Basically square so I battle with shoes as well.

I still have a huge problem with jeans - I'm your classic pear so I have a large bum but comparatively small waist so to get them over my bum I need a size bigger and then they don't fit on the waist.
Do you like the low/ultra low waist jeans? Solves all problems, sits on hip and never reaches the waist.

I know just what you mean. I've honestly seen more size 26s than size 44s... now you tell me what's a more normal size for an adult woman.
I assume there might be a misunderstanding with clothes size conversion from UK to CH?

The jeans sizes in CH start at 24 and go to max. 36.

If you are a Swiss 42/44, in UK this is a size 14/16, your jeans size is probably 30/31.

... shouldn't be a problem to find a jeans for you in Zuerich!

(The Romands are a bit on the lighter side, from my observations, compared to the Swiss German females.
42 is a standard size in most clothes stores in ZH/BS etc.)

Happy shopping!

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Aha... ok, I shan't discount certain pairs of jeans then (why don't they just have the same flippin' sizes for jeans and for normal trousers?!!). Bought some normal trousers size 42 and they were fine.

I feel like quite the idiot.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

You are right it really is not easy to find the right size. One afternoon of shopping for a good pair consisted of me trying over 10 pairs. Guess what is the best of all. I came home with 3 pairs!!! But listen, 1 size 38, 1 size 40 and 1 size 42 all fitting perfectly, not too loose or too tight

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

One of the facts of life here in this beautiful country is that the shops consider every male customer to be of Mediterranean origin with short legs and an appropriate girth. I can't find my size anywhere either. I rely on US import clothing or dashes north of the border where the pure Aryan sizes match my requirements.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Many years ago, they tried to give a standard in the industry by trying to make all companies using the same chart of size... Didn't work.

Their opinions was that each of them have such a different group of customer targets that one size to fit all wouldn't work.

The reality: Because the companies already have their blocks of patterns ready and it would cost a hell lot of money to conform to one standard.

Zara is targeting woman between maybe 19-35
H&M is targeting woman between maybe 15-30,
etc, etc.

So each of them have their own models of what is their target. One may have more hips, the other may have more boobs, etc.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

If you have thunder thighs and a big booty like me, C&A is not the place to go for trousers, as they seem to cater to apple shapes rather than pears. I've just given up on buying jeans here and simply order them from Next online.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Have you try Diesel or Tommy?? my problem is that i have huge hips and a thin waist, and every time i want to buy jeans is the same problem sometimes i found 42 that fits me well but sometimes the 44 and i'm not fat is funny, I always choose those that are like kind of "stretch" so they can fit to my figure, but try some Diesel i hope you have good luck!

Every single one of those jeans are an example of what you should never, ever wear if you are that shape. Ever.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Check out Manor - I just went there the other day and was surprised to find a TON of jeans on sale and all different sizes - I found quite a few pairs of size 40's which is what I am and a few more of 42's and who knows you might just get a great bargain at the same time...I came away with 3 pairs for 15chf each cause they were on such a massive sale and they are very comfy, wide leg and none of this skinny jean stuff that is so unflattering (unless worn with awesome boots) when you are a bit bigger up top like most women these days (me included)!

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

My favourite store for jeans is Banana Republic. The way they cut the jeans seem to fit me the best...and they look like jeans a proper grown up woman should wear, rather than a looking like a crazy teenager or the dreaded mum-jeans, which seems to be the selection here.

BR have just opened a store in Milan. That'd be a nice train journey.

I hadn't even considered Manor, but that's mainly because I'm in Neuchâtel town. I suppose I could hop on the bus and go to the Marin shopping centre and see what they've got there.
