Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Although it's a bit of a trek from Neuchatel, my wife, who's quite tall, found heaps of great fitting jeans in the town of Waldshut in Germany - she was having so much trouble finding suitably long jeans here in Zürich and found Waldshut to be a godsend for her. It's apparently a town that a fair few Swiss in Zürich go to for shopping, according to our Swiss mates.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Just a thought, Boden delivers to Switzerland, you do get stuck with the bloody customs charge, but I find its well worth it to avoid schlepping around shops on a Saturday. And they are having their winter sale on now! I second the Banana Republic reccomendation in Milan, bit of a trek from Neuchatel, but in Milan you have Gap as well and lots of other good stores that are quite a bit better than the choice in Geneva/ Bern/ Zurich. And of course there is the food!

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

I do appreciate all the suggestions, but I'm really just after one pair of jeans, so really I'd like to just stick to Neuch

However, I will bear all of this in mind if I decide my wardrobe needs a complete overhaul (which it probably will at some point, some of my clothes are quite old).

Every single one of those jeans are an example of what you should never, ever wear if you are that shape. Ever.

EVER wear leggings with a short top if you are that shape please!

Do you like the low/ultra low waist jeans? Solves all problems, sits on hip and never reaches the waist.
Yea, if you have a washboard stomach, flat as a pancake

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Hi Kamarate,
I had the same trouble as you. I eventually found a pair in the Levi store in Place Palud, Lausanne. It's a small store but they seem to carry a wider range of sizes than any other store I've found. The assistant was really helpful, (depressingly) bringing me ever bigger sizes until we got the right one. They were pricey, but they've washed well and have held their shape well which is more than I can say for H&M jeans.
My other favourite pair of jeans are from Esprit. Try ordering a range of sizes from http://www.espritshop.ch/index_cf.htm?LKZ=CH. They don't charge for either delivery or returns, so you just pay for what you keep and then send the rest back, free of charge.
Happy shopping!

I hadn't even considered Manor, but that's mainly because I'm in Neuchâtel town. I suppose I could hop on the bus and go to the Marin shopping centre and see what they've got there.
I have the same problems as you but I did manage to get some jeans to fit me at C & A in Marin and another pair at Manor. Both were on sale and were pretty good bargains.
I'm child free all week next week and Happy to drive you out there if you like.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Well, I went to C&A today and was most impressed at the range of sizes (noted for future reference!). Couldn't find the perfect pair (apparently, if you have a bigger waist, your thighs are predicted to be the size of large tree trunks), but I did find something I was about 80% happy with, so thank you for all the help!

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Hi,
I spent HOURS trying on jeans in a shopping centre in Luzern yesterday, got an okay pair at 50% off in Schild and another at 40% off in World of Jeans. I think both of these shops are chains so might be worth a try. Have to say I was pretty unimpressed with the range on offer, seems to be mostly very cheap stuff at very high prices, no international brands really. I think shopping in France/Germany is the way forward for any clothes purchases. Can't understand why the Swiss put up with the high prices or maybe they all shop cross border anyway.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

I think if a survey was made of the most frustrating clothes shopping experiences for women - jeans buying would be right at the top, with swimming costumes 2nd and wedding dresses next!

Kamarate, why didn't you buy jeans in the UK when you were there at Christmas!

My Christmas holiday was very short (less than a week) and absolutely packed (seeing people etc). I went shopping in the sales for an hour, and that was literally all the time I had to do so!

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Sorry, haven't read the entire thread, but empathise, jeans are a total nightmare. Personally I like a bit of lycra in my denim too; just as well as I've lost the best part of 2 stone over the last few months. My solution is the John Rocha jeans from Debenhams and I buy about 3 pairs at a time. With the current exchange rate, it's probably cheaper too

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

gah. i was going to write my own rant on this topic and then i saw yours. ive had zero luck. im also in the 42-44 range. back home im anywhere between an 8 and a 12 depending on the brand. the nice sales man at h&M suggested the elastic jeans for a woman of my size. isnt that nice? my boyfriend looked at me quizzically and i explained, "im a huge tub of lard." because that's how i felt. i checked out manor but didnt have much luck there. i think it was because that was after 4 hours of shopping and i didnt look very hard. i went to two different coops today and found one ugly pair that i could not justify buying. i saw some styles i liked but not in my size. i went to c&a too but that was after the afore mentioned h&m experience and all i wanted to do was scream. i will go back there later this week along with manor.

i might not be a tiny lady but this is insane. i do not like the teenager jeans. i do not like mom-jeans. why is there not something for someone in her mid 30s who still has a sense of fashion (and pride)? the skinny jeans make me feel like a bowling pin. and neither am i down with bling on my ass. yuck. i just want a simple pair of jeans that are comfy and dont make me feel like a schoolmarm.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Try Street One jeans. C&A also do nice jeans. I got some very slimming pregnancy ones there and I love their Jessica brand jackets, the only ones I can fit into with curves. I also found some stretch (with lyrcra) trousers there that aren't too tight in all the wrong places.

Sizes are all over the place these days. I just buy what fits and ignore the size. I saw too many people squeezing into the wrong size on holiday back home over Christmas - people with tops so tight you could see through them

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

Lausanne: Levis Place de la Palud, has a 50% off sale on some styles. Try on everything, and remember, it's not the size, it's the fit.

Oh, by the way, if you're looking for comfort get 100% cotton only. Any spandex/lycra or otherwise stretchy blend will, well, get up your arse eventually.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

I like Esprit jeans and not only jeans. You might want to take a look, they have different cuts, not everything it's for über-skinny ones.

Re: Impossible to find jeans!

My biggest problem is my butt! No matter how thin/skinny I get, I have this brazilian butt. I have to fix a lot of my pants on the waist to have a proper fitting. I have the hour shape but because of that butt, I need a different size on the bottom then the top (bikinis have to be bought separatly from top to bottom) I don't have large hips so most of the trousers have the extra side hip curves that make me look like I have extra pockets!

In store, I can't find clothes that fix my butt because of this. They do pants with hips but no butt space. So when I buy bigger size to fit my backside, the waist is too big! Great!
