Only a stones throw away from the ancestral home of those mild-mannered, colourful-charactered travelling Romany-type people (bless 'em), who like their "hen fights", but often favour other shiny objects when fighting - maybe you got off lucky. God forbid this is the sign of things to come - and Paddy Reilly's always seemed such a respectable hostelry.

Good to hear that it didn't turn out worse for you - and hoping you've been able to drown your sorrows.

What is it makes people want to throw a glass in a crowded bar, especially if that person is a girl, can't throw properly and missed her intended target?
Alcohol or Cocaine.

Re: Scumbags in pubs

Lucky escape you had there Paddy - but thanks for sharing that sad little episode with us.
Ah - it reminds me of home but let`s just hope it`s not a sign of things to come here.
As for those people in pubs, who see no reason why someone`s face and a broken glass should not come into contact . . . . well in the words of Alan Partridge . . . `Scum . . . sub-human scum`

having been glassed by a woman many years ago, I can tell you those witches are nasty. And I was the intended target.....my "girlfriend" at the time decided she wanted to meet a new guy whom I knew and, frankly, I did not mind as it was time to move on.
Have I misunderstood you here? Are you saying an ex dumped you by glassing you?

It is little wonder that rumours abound about Welsh men favouring sheep!

Oy veh.

I have a scar across my throat (surgery). I tell people I cut myself shaving. With a machete. Sadly it's faded a lot now, but it used to look ever so impressive. Blasted surgeon with good sewing skills.

As an ex bouncer lads generally have the upper hand in size and strength but the ladies more than make up for it in viciousness and their ability to get away with it.

They do have surveillance cameras, but not in the smoking room unfortunately. Manager says he's going to push for it now.
In the original post you mentioned the owner was there with you, surely it is him who makes a decision about CCTV not the manager ?

Yes, the manager is going to push the owner into installing CCTV in the fumoir. The owner isn't resident in Switzerland, he lives in Ireland and comes over now and again to check on his empire.
In retrospect, I wish they'd have kept the whole crowd tehre until the police arrived and delayed taking me to hospital. I might have had a good chance of fingering the bitch () who did it.

I've gotten pretty effing hammered manys a time, but I've never resorted to violence, let alone thrown a glass. I just don't get the mindset of these people.

having been glassed by a woman many years ago, I can tell you those witches are nasty. And I was the intended target.....my "girlfriend" at the time decided she wanted to meet a new guy whom I knew and, frankly, I did not mind as it was time to move on.

I bled like a mo-fo until they got a shard of glass out of the back of my head. Lodged in an vein so there was claret everywhere.

After 20 minutes of them trying to find this, I was face down on the gurney and thus, when I sat up, I looked like something from a horror movie and could not change expression as the blood caking my face had, erm, been outside the body too long to remain liquid.

Under advice, I was told to take a taxi home when they let me out. We rounded the corner outside the hospital and ran away to the kebab place (yes, teenagers).

Only the next day, I found an additional hole in my back that had been missed due to lack of pain (wonder why) and the amount of blood.

I can't remember seeing the woman again but should've called the rozzers. My neighbour, the bouncer at the place we were at, had hold of her and I told him to not give her a smacking as it was not worth his time.....this was before my mate cupped his hands and collected my blood rather rapidly.....and we jogged to the local hospital.

You all should be pleased I'm still here!!!
Gosh, have you ever thought about writing scripts for 'Eastenders'?

Not far off, but a just a single line and lower and more central. It's about an inch long I would say, enough for 4 stitches.
However, if it's enough to get me closer to Hermione, then yes, it's exactly like that

A girl glasses you and this is what they get in return? So I see you're a lover, not a fighter.

If the group was speaking French they most likely were NOT Albanian. To me just a blunt and dull attempt by that bar-manager to make the Albanians/Kosovaris the scapegoats. Just in order to avoid having to admit that the villains most like were simply Swiss !

Just as many "witnesses" when describing a crime are suddenly fairly sure that the culprits had "an accent from ex Yugoslavia" , while they in reality only spoke Baaseltiitsch !

Actually, there are a lot of groups of kids who are many nationalities, most are secundos and naturally speak french together. I know the manager well and he knows his clientele (his is Irish himself). You're making more assumptions than he is!

Yes, cocaine users can become very aggressive when the effect is wearing off
