I reckon a swift grand in your back pocket, and an appology is about as good as it's going to get.
If that's enough to difuse the situation, then I say "Problem solved". No point in pursuing it further if it's just going to cause more problems.

| | Re: Scumbags in pubs | Quote: | | | | | PaddyG, are the police already involved? If so one thing I would want to be sure of is that they would not pursue this regardless of whether you want to. I am not clued up on the system here but in some countries the police will prosecute even if the victim doesn't want them to. This could end up with nasty repercussions for you from him and his lady (as if you can call her that). The police may also not look kindly in accepting what basically amounts to bribery. | | | | | Nope, didn't go to the police, as I didn't think there was any chance of identifying her. I'm shocked this guy came forward at all in fact.
As Bill says, a swift grand in the pocket, a handshake and an apology will suffice.

If whoever is willing to prosecute and there is a judgement in PaddyG's favour, the best one can hope for is part of the hospital costs will be paid for and maybe the guilty party will get a proverbial spanking.
Take the grand in cash, if still offered, but watch your back Paddy... .

But he came (maybe out of fear to be in trouble with the police) and take the chance. It is risky, you could decide to go to the police and put him in trouble.

| | Re: Scumbags in pubs | Quote: | | | | | I personally think that all agressive behaviour associated with any sort of drug* use is just the outburst influenced by a person's mental state.
(*I say 'DRUG' in general reference to both alcohol and other illicit substances)
These same people then blame alcohol and drugs on their socially behavioural problems as a quick fix "band-aid" solution to something more sinister. This is why seemingly nice people just lose their shit sometimes.
Public acceptance of this is just the scapegoat to provide a "One size fits all" solution rather than the impossible task of tackling the real issues behind each individual.
If alcohol and drugs are the root of the problem, why most people can consume them (specifically alcohol) in peace and remain fairly sociable?
(granted that more illicit substances exagerate the same effect)
If you are aggressive when you drink, take your time to think about what triggered the attack and either talk about your issues with someone you trust, or go and get some help.
Whatever you do, don't bottle it up and make the problem worse.
Drugs are rarely the problem (although we all do and say some stupid shit sometimes). Mostly people reach for them to mask their issues, and THEN blame the drug.
Nobody likes to drink with people like that.... and making your problem someone elses, isn't cool with me.... your outbursts just escalate problems in an otherwise calm atmosphere.
I say....... Stop blaming the drugs and sort your shit out.
I can drink in peace, so why can't you?
(and I know I say this for most people, further adding proof that alcohol is not the problem). | | | | | Completely agree. I was replying to why are people fighting on cocaine/alcohol rather than something else.
I feel some drugs influence and effect people more than others regardless of mental state, a bit of puff or a pill is less destructive than say alcohol and cocaine.
Coke's I still think is a nasty drug and I noticed the change over early 00's when people moved from pills to coke when they went out, suddenly high streets were full of anger and aggressiveness. It's also a selfish "me me me drug"
Then perhaps I'm just a hippy, I've personal experience of most of these and I know how they affect me and my friends. So really i'm talking from the heart. No longer I might add my crazyness is now over.. Well sort of
I would go further and say legalise the lot
No worries nothing taken personally and I enjoy this debate and peoples viewpoints.

I don't think going to the police will do anything to be honest, it's over a week ago now, there are no witnesses who can positively identify her, only the crowd she was with. | Quote: | | | | but watch your back Paddy | | | | | You know, this only just occurred to me too, what if he wanted to meet me, just to identify me? I'll arrange to meet him somewhere I'm familiar with and where people know me. I was going to contact him directly, but on 2nd thoughts I'll leave that to my friend (the built-like-a-brick-shithouse Portuguese barman ) to arrange the meeting. I'm a big, fit guy myself, but if this chap has 4 or 5 mates in tow....

I'd settle for an apology from the girl and a promise that she'll never do what she did again - to anyone.
You never know how many people this guy's had to buy off.....
