If anyone is interested they could always hire me to be along during the transaction. My wrinkly tights can be whipped off and used as bindings in flat seconds, my metal curlers could cut a man's throat. Not to mention that my expression can curdle milk and make a person rigid with fear!

Please PM for my service.

I sold a few things on the EF just before Christmas. Rather scary what could have happened letting strangers into my home. Poor you. Just remember that not everyone is as weak and as low-life as that person.

Thanks for that. Indeed Poor me . Naaah ! M fine

I guess I have accepted it that it had to happen. I guess if next time people who are involving in such scams would think twice, coz threads like these are gonna get people ready to land some kicks and punches. So i just saw after this thread started, the Aikido enrollment in Swiss went an all time high

Sure, you could have confronted him at the time. However, he sounds like a rather slick operator. He may have arrived without money, but there could have been a knife in his pocket......

Re: Can U believe this guy, jeeeeez.

I can't believe that this is happening. I actually thought that it was much better and such things are not happening in Swiss. But in recent months it doesn't look that good.

But you still can find the guy with a help from EF admins. They should keep the logs and of course there should be IP address it used which might become very useful tracking the guy.

For example one student wrote not very nice comment in on of the biggest news website back at home. So of course police got IP address, managed to track to university, find out which computer was used and even find the student which was sitting in front of computer at that time. So he got busted.

You can also try finding iPhone, there is that service Apple is offering. I think it's called "Find My IPhone" and it should for free now.

The nice thing about iPhone and especially if it is Jailbreaked, that thief probably not gonna try changing operating system (for example to clean the stuff or he might want new version). That would be big risk to brick it. For some time I am thinking about writing small application that would send GPS location to my website from iPhone every 5 min, that would run in background.

Other than that, contact EF admins, get IP, get police involved. Btw, maybe there are some cameras around your place that could have recorded him or the car?

That's true. Had one of those some time ago. I was in 10th grade, was going home. I went into my house and started going up to my flat and there was two strange guys standing and pretty much soon I realized that it's not gonna end good. They tried to knock me off, got series of hits to head, but my head can handle hits pretty well. So after not succeeding in that they took out a knife and put near by belly and asked for my mobile phone. Still didn't want to give them and after some time not much you can do.

Now I always carry a small knife in that small jeans pocket near my phone.

He was a smooth operator. I guess I related to him, coz I am a jolly person as well. I talk to myself and ask questions about others to get the ice breaking and when I saw he had a similar character, the last thing that could struck me was he being a scammer.

THough I am sure it is late. I have informed the admins, I never expected to find a solution to this issue now and tht was not the reason to start this thread. But if this can cause some awareness. It will be helpful.

ABout involving Police, it isnt that simple. I have tried talking to the cops and they didnt seem to keen coz according to them, it isnt a strong case. And anyone would had flicked the things when we both were working.

Re: Can U believe this guy, jeeeeez.

I just remembered, maybe you have IMEI of your iPhone? In that case police can ask mobile operators to track the phone. Mostly that's the best working case scenario as I remember. But if he is good, he probably gonna change that (I don't know hard it might be to that on iPhone).

But it's ridiculous that police is not gonna take the case. I see lots of ways how they could track this guy. And even if he is not responsible he still the main suspect. They must take the case, there is no other option. At least that's how I see it. iPhone and 800 CHF that's not a small a thing, at least for me (student here).

Actually when I was living in Geneva I felt that it was more safe, I don't know why. That was more than a year ago, maybe people change in very little time. I don't know, but I felt much safer.

Back at work I even could leave my wallet, mobile phone, and other stuff in library or anywhere and I always would find them in few hours with nothing taken. I trust people much more here in Swiss.

This is not the answer, just means one more knife out there, and there is a chance that it ends up being used on you!

So sorry for you.. bad experience.

I guess so as well. So to think about a few things to be listed down, may be it is already out there, but wont hurt to mention it again.

1.) Dont mention any of your private contact details, like email address, phone numbers in threads. Let people PM you.

2.) Keep PMing until the transactions have been finalised and then share personal contact details over PM

3.) Note down the car plate numbers and other details elsewhere.

4.) Be vigilant and dont let your guard down.

5.) If any thing is suspicious, make sure the moderators are informed immediately.

This is ofcourse incase you are meeting a person for the 1st time or havent met them enough to trust them.

Feel free to add any more
-Since this is a transaction with a stranger, always have a friend or two. Work around your friend(s) schedule instead of the stranger's. As always, 2-3 heads are better than 1. I'd personally prefer male friends.

-Make a police report immediately, even if case is weak. Provide as close a description of whatever helps.

-It is always wise not to have that much cash with you, that is what ATMs are for.

Being a slick operator, the iPhone could have changed hands many times, and perhaps internal IDs could have been modified.

Just something to add from personal experience.

Re: Can U believe this guy, jeeeeez.

Well I sure see one good lesson in all this, just because this is the EF doesn't mean people behave like in a lovely, nicely educated family
and people can just blindly trust each other.
Far, far, far from it. It is just like anywhere else with people. Some are great and others well, not so great.

DAMM this was a bad experience. My reaction towards EF got sour for like a week, a bit extreme though, couldnt help it, this was the 1st time I used EF and this is what I had to face, I know, EF had nothing to do with it, but i guess i was pushed to far that I just didnt feel like coming to EF and mentioning this in the complaints corner, but as time went by, I realised not every1 is inhuman and EF is definitely a place where I can relate too. I wanted to mention this here and not let it just slip by, coz it is better that others again have a friendly reminders of never letting their guard down, even if everything looks just fine.

Well, then don't be so hard on yourself..he was too good (the classic type of a charming, educated crook) ...Make sure you won't be so gullible next time, people could talk and behave absolutely charming and still be some scum bags, didn't you know that?
