Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh On the subject of smoking in odd places, how come so many smokers light up in underground car parks? Surely this has to be dangerous? Often there are even ash trays mounted by the lifts - so it's obviously expected... |

I have also seen Swiss people filling their cars with petrol with a cigarette in their mouth. Is this not dangerous either?? |

I like the idea of the designated smoking boxes, it seems like the most sensible option to me. It means smokers still get to stand around smoking and other people can avoid that zone and don't have to breathe in the smoke. The smell of smoke doesn't bother me that much, but I do often get it blown in my face here too (either that or someone walking directly in front of me is smoking and it trails behind right into my face), and that's a little bit gross. |
Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh Well, maybe you just need practice. Here's lesson number one for free. There is nothing amusing about KFC. Quote:

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh That's the reason I hate going on trains and drive instead. When I was pregnant I got smoke blown into my face every time I entered a train platform. Now with a baby I even got some ignorant old hack blowing smoke into the pram where my baby was sleeping. So I stood up and pushed the pram away to make a point - do you think she felt bad about it? I don't think so. Maybe someone needs to educate swiss people that smoking is actually bad for you and it's certainly not cool anymore. Such an allegedly developed civilization and sometimes (too often I think) so incredibly backwards that it makes me shiver and move back into the jungle! |

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh Already feel better getting this off my chest, I certainly have a thing against smoking and I'm even a cured smoker, only smoked as a teen 'to keep up with the peers' |

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh Jus to share something... Week ago when I went to Vitis sport's centre for regular night session of tennis with my wife (I just felt like relax after long day at work and get a healthy dose of exercise so that I can sleep like a baby). There usually aren't too many people there so it is more affordable and less crowds. I went to the bathroom upstairs (where James Blunt's music is played on regularly ) to fill up the bottle with some water and I almost puked. The entire place size of two by three was stinking with cigarette smoke, seriously so bad that you smelled it like someone must have lighted up few minutes ago and just left. Not only my lungs were suffering this instntenous excruciating pain of sudden poisnous breath-in, but fresh shirt and shorts out from the laundry with aroma of fabric softener/freshener (my wife's speciality) all were ruined by this stench in seconds and I felt like vomiting. It was so bad and distinct that when I got on the court my wife asked me "since when you started smoking". Common people you come to do the sports and contradict yourselves! There is small smokers area with ashtray outside there by the entrance as well and it is always full of cigarettes butts like candles on cake saying 100 years old . I would rather have these "sport's people" use it instead of contaminating the public toilet. |
Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh ..but I would like to make a distinction. I've been a strong anti-smoking advocate on this thread...but it's the ciagerettes that really bother me...cigars and pipes don't have that sharply pungent, penetrating stinge that cigarettes have. |
Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh I don't get this with people into sports. They are fit, in shape, eat healthy and everything, and you see them smoking! It is as weird as seeing a pregnant woman smoking, a mother holding her baby with a cig in her mouth, a old man with an oxygen pump support in front on the hospital's door smoking.... Or my pneumologist who smokes! |

Been some time since we spoke about this subject but I'm sure if you use the search function you will find..probably x3 years ago or so. "Putting out a cigarette in a bowl of petrol" Yup that's what they taught my father on a welding course, where you learn to control these sort of things. Also people studying chemistry at university tend to take a interest in these subjects. It's about temperatures, energy and vapour, so if it's -5c outside highly unlikely the petrol station would go up. Secondly it's actually extremely difficult to light petrol with a lit cigarette, so all the films you see are additionally wrong. If you don't believe me try for yourself or I'll do it for you. (With a small amount of petrol I might add firstly. It's damn near impossible) It's health and safety BS on behalf of the car park owners and unless someone dumps an entire petrol tank into a confined space it's very highly unlikely it will cause a explosion. Even then you could probably drop a couple of road cones and that would be sufficent to protect small animals and smokers :D Lots of love as always Cat x (p.s. some person has already tried it but I suppose someone has too) |
Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh 1 Attachment(s) I had the misfortune of having a very atracttive young lady sit next to me today on the metro, not normaly a problem other than the fact she stank of cigarettes:msnsick::msnsick: Its the the way they have to try and get as many drags on the cigarette before they get in the train that so sick, like drug addicts. Smokers stink fact, your breath smells and your clothes.... Also have noticed smokers are starting to flout the law, slowy but surely smoking in small bars, train and metro stations. |
