On the subject of smoking in odd places, how come so many smokers light up in underground car parks? Surely this has to be dangerous? Often there are even ash trays mounted by the lifts - so it's obviously expected...

No, it's not dangerous.

How come it's forbidden in every country I've visit except Switzerland?

I have also seen Swiss people filling their cars with petrol with a cigarette in their mouth. Is this not dangerous either??

This gives me a great idea, we should carry a freshner bottle and when someone comes next to us to smoke, we push some freshner in the air around us! That will make a point! :D

 Yani! In most country I know you have a non-smoking sign at petrol station saying to not smoke close to the pump! Not here?

Yes you do. But I think your time and money would be better invested in obtaining a sense of humour. ""

What if you don't have a car?

I like the idea of the designated smoking boxes, it seems like the most sensible option to me. It means smokers still get to stand around smoking and other people can avoid that zone and don't have to breathe in the smoke. The smell of smoke doesn't bother me that much, but I do often get it blown in my face here too (either that or someone walking directly in front of me is smoking and it trails behind right into my face), and that's a little bit gross.

Well, maybe you just need practice. Here's lesson number one for free. There is nothing amusing about KFC.

Nah, car is a main mean of transport. Trains used predominantly for luxury by people who want to avoid traffic and all smokers who wait and puff into others faces at the platforms... I try to avoid them. :D

Because laws are often made by people with no knowledge of the subject.

No.

A fuel/air mixture is actually very difficult to ignite, and impossible if not close to stoichiometric.

Not a good idea. Most air fresheners make me puke.

I'm not sure that anyone has ever died from the occasional whiff of second hand smoke on a train platform either. ;)

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

That's the reason I hate going on trains and drive instead. When I was pregnant I got smoke blown into my face every time I entered a train platform. Now with a baby I even got some ignorant old hack blowing smoke into the pram where my baby was sleeping. So I stood up and pushed the pram away to make a point - do you think she felt bad about it? I don't think so.

Maybe someone needs to educate swiss people that smoking is actually bad for you and it's certainly not cool anymore. Such an allegedly developed civilization and sometimes (too often I think) so incredibly backwards that it makes me shiver and move back into the jungle!

...just too bad, that at any given point there must be at least 15 smokers lighting it up on any given platform.

Already feel better getting this off my chest, I certainly have a thing against smoking and I'm even a cured smoker, only smoked as a teen 'to keep up with the peers'
