and while they are getting around to banning smoking in ALL public places then they can also ban the eating of such foods as hamburgers and kebabs etc etc in ALL trams and buses and trains.

Wait for summer, then the sweaty clothing, messy fingers from ice cream etc will be added

Because hamburgers and kebabs stink. Ice cream does not stink. Obvious. And everybody knows that the sweat from meat eaters
is really penetrant. | Quote: | | | | | Why?

Perhaps, but they are nothing compared to what we eat on the train.

Of course, when eating on the train and cutting my stinky cheeses with an 8" chef's knife, no one has ever complained.

This is similar to what happens, but a little toned down as in Zürich. But they stop blowing bubbles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVFK3CRiIrQ

Tom | | | | | Because this smell really sticks to clothes and hair.
Next thing that will be demanded is that people get a thorough shower in the door frame when entering the trains, then get blow dried in the seats during the trip so when the leave the train they're nice and clean.
And then there will be those leaving the trains through the doors meant for entering and ..... we got an other thread.

I kind of get where omtatsat is coming from with the whole "other humans do my head in" business. I am blessed/cursed with insanely acute senses, together with attention deficit disorder, meaning I am unable to filter out unwanted sensory input. Furthermore, certain smell particles make me feel nauseous or trigger a headache or even migraine. Imagine all the smells, sounds, colours and sensations of the world around you have been set to loud and you get a rough idea what it's like. Now I can look away when you are doing or wearing something visually irritating (like playing with a fidget spinner), I can more or less control what I touch and what touches me, headphones can more or less drown out people who do such oafish things as chewing gum with their mouths open or "snapping" the gum but smells...
This morning I walked into the train with some "alternative" parents and the mum clearly thought that her organic yak's milk deodorant was doing its job - trust me, it was not, the whole carriage smelled of her. The other crime against fellow passengers is eating any kind of tuna product in an enclosed space, makes me want to hurl. Fast food and kebabs are almost tolerable (but still gross) depending on the onion content. Applying perfume or hairspray (yes, people actually do this) in a public space is another thing that wants banning, as should wearing so much of the stuff that you can be detected from more than two metres distance. Antisocial perfume habits are especially unfortunate because most perfumes people wear are unimaginative at best (Coco Mademoiselle / J'adore / JPG Classique) and borderline repulsive at worst (Dior Addict / Amarige / Poison / One Million).
I don't see much point in questioning the entire character of smokers, they have simply made an unfortunate lifestyle choice and find themselves unwilling (or in most cases unable) to replace the habit with a more private one. However, most smokers don't seem to realise this but their whole person is permeated with the smell of their habit, so if a smoker sits down next to me on the tram, I can smell them on my clothes long after they have gone. If a smoker uses a washing machine and then a tumble dryer, it will smell of smoke. I was recently unfortunate enough to have a heavily perfumed smoker sat next to me who was chewing gum noisily AND had tinny headphone leakage blaring at me; as soon as a seat further away became free, I got up and sat down there. Funnily enough, the bloke who then sat down in my former spot gave her a disgusted look and got right back up again, so it's not always me being overly sensitive. Maybe that's her strategy to be able to sit alone, who knows.
Coming back to the smoking ban on platforms - it's not just that it stinks on the platform/ at the stop (and with those horrendous CBD cigarettes, it has truly gone next level, I absolutely detest the smell of weed in any form, it makes me retch), but if you basically smoke until the last second before the bus/tram/train opens its doors, you often exhale smoke into the vehicle as you get on. You are freshly covered in fumes, further stinking up the air around you. Determining a designated smoking area with an ashtray would maybe also cut down on the dreadful habit of chucking cigarette stubs all over the place.

And chuck their butts onto the platform. If it was a crisp packet it likely would go in the bin, but not a butt.
