Sounds fair.

But it is also high time for this:

As long as they don't so something really stupid like turn the heated platform waiting rooms at SBB stations into the smoking zones.
Not related with this post but just have to report that I've seen ad posters for some organisation (I think it was Lungenliga but I forget) that offers help with quitting smoking, in trams and other places in Zurich....they are something new...so maybe things are not changing as fast as you would like them to but they do change in the right direction and the Swiss are catching up too.

Hope it is ultimately implemented nationwide, a very sensible proposition considering the established health risks stemming from passive smoking
Parents just won't take their kids to parks anymore.

In the local park, not only do parents smoke, but there is also a bar, with a cigarette machine.

The last (and only time*) I went to the restaurant quoted in the article, L'Or in Horgen, we paid for a baby sitter so we could have a child-free evening and were promptly seated next to a family with screaming, over-tired children.

I'm actually all for restaurant, private gallery owners and people getting married to decide themselves whether children are allowed in or not.
The weddings I have enjoyed the most have been those where children have either not been invited or have been entertained separately.

But having said that, the occasional annoying child is not going to damage one's health.

Having to constantly stop your toddler from eating very toxic cigarette stubs whilst crawling around a playground is not the same thing at all.

* Only once as the meal was mediocre and so mean in size, I needed to eat again when I got home.

Passive smoking risks are about the same as the health benefits of homeopathy, and for the same reasons!

Who wrote anything about passive smoking with respect to playgrounds?

Of course that's an issue but more as it's just pretty obnoxious in the open air.

As I wrote in my post, it's the real issue of toddlers chewing toxic cigarette butts and the other issue is the normalisation of smoking which is a problem for impressionable kids.

Sure, smoking was normal in the sixties but medical knowledge has moved on since then. Old fossils obviously haven't.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all the nicotine addicts were courteous enough to clean up after themselves. Not only is it unsightly it pollutes and it costs the rest of us big bucks to clean up after them.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Don't know about other cities, but in Zürich smokers don't give a flat if they are in middle of a crowd or whatever. At minimal when smoking at a train station, they should walk to the edge of the station downwind.

I'd also like to complain about stinky Swiss cheese I sometimes accidentally buy when I don't pay attention, but at least I can throw that shit out immediately and don't have to stomach it. Not that with cigarette smoke though.

Welcome to Cancerland.

Hawaii has always been Switzerland's paragon, all their laws are implemented here immediately a day after they are in Hawaii - no questions asked.

The crazy thing is:

Big Tobacco isn't held liable for a defective product even though theirs kills. The vaping company however will be even though they probably save many lives by getting their clients off tobacco exposure.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Big Tobacco still gives in excess of $5 million in political contributions (2018). While this is down from the 2002 peak of more than $10 million it certainly is enough.

And they get a tax write off for this bribery.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Just as a sideline to this topic - Smokers are now saying that anti-smoking adverts and campaigns
are another example of Project Fear !!

With the Project Fear mantra being so effective in fobbing off good advice and words of wisdom in
the British campaign for Brexit.

Rumour has it that the Tobacco industry, as well groups and organisations that oppose or challenge
views on global warming and would love to label it a con trick; as well as
many individuals who are vehemently opposed to being ticked off about their eating
habits and are also of the view that healthy eating campaigns are another con trick.

Are jumping on the Project Fear bandwagon with glee, as an excuse to carry on Smoking, and not
change their ways by saying its all a con trick, Project Fear and the environmentalists would say
that, wouldn't they because they have vested interests.

In fact you can already see this taking place on Social Media with Smokers decrying the gross
images of the effects of lung cancer on cigarette packets as Project Fear gone mad !!

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Everyone knows that smoking kills. Not only the smoker but others unfortunate to be in the radius of their smoke.

Saying this is just project fear is more likely to discredit that term.

I agree but all the naysayers seem to be using the Project Fear tag more & more, as an excuse
to turn a blind eye to such health warnings as its ( for them ) the best way to close off the debate
and even to hit back with the illusion that - they would say its bad for your health, as they have
vested interests.

What I love best is when you release a juicy fart next to a smoker, they get very offended most of the times - allegedly it smells horrible. Can you smell the hypocrisy (excuse the pun)?
You have just inspired me to light up a stogie!
