Almost everyone makes hand gestures whilst talking. Probably the most famous exponent of recent times is the very un-Italian Tony Blair.

Not to mention the Trumpet

| | | | | I personally didn’t see it as racist but did find the use of national stereotypes in order to make a point rather ridiculous.
Actually this whole thread has become rather ridiculous now and has moved very far away from the original topic.

I noticed the new setup in Geneva last night..
Basically the same ashtray on the platform but it now has a sign on top suggesting the smoking is allowed within 2m of the sign.
It was working in that the area around the sign was very popular but jeeze, it really concentrated the aroma. Fail as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going back to not bothering to respond to a certain member's posts as they seem intent on baiting me and it looks like they achieved it today.
Here's some "Bernard Manning" style "humour" to leave you all aghast at stereotypes: | | | | | TBH I laughed at this. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I thought it was funny.

I don't think it's mocking the foreigners but the general British ineptitude* with foreign languages.
* I'm going to get accused of using stereotypes again which some people find offensive.

Ask Linford Christie if he thinks the black man with massive cock trope is positive. Even if you think you are being positive or complimentary, it isn't always so. | | | | | As if that were even remotely comparable to stating that Italians "speak with their hands".
Just to clarify for you: it isn't.

That's exactly what they did in my main station.

Just an aside, OH taught me Greek hand gestures (single and double handed Moutza) so that I know when the mother-out-law is really angry, and so I know that some common UK hand gestures can be seen as offensive there.

Tom | | | | | Are you sure? I thought it means "Ok" in Germany, just like in the anglo-american world, vs "asshole" in Italy.
