Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Is it me or can no one else take the smoking here? Why is it allowed to smoke on train platforms while waiting for the train. The smokers aren't even polite smokers. Always have cigarette smoke blown in my face and stuck in my hair. I can't take it anymore. I get caught before I can even get to the warm "non smoking room". It's making me crazy!

Polite smokers? What planet are you from?

Switzerland is like the final bastion for smokers. They love it, everyone smokes as if their lungs were made of leather and pop-rivets. An autopsy would reveal a little 'Swiss Made' label on their windbags.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Whatever happened to live and let live? I'm not a smoker (never have been) but find it more tolerable than getting smothered in somebody else's perfume or aftershave whilst on the train.

Have a cigarette and calm down for goodness sake.

It' s a shared public space where I as a non smoker should be able to escape the smoke...however this isn't happening, as smokers tend to be ignorants who light it up whenever they can...and this creates a problem for people who value their health.

Calm down. I dont think the smokers intentionally blow smoke in your face. You were just unlucky to be caught in that cloud of smoke haze.

Smoking has already been banned indoors - and as a smoker, I welcome that myself. Sure I concede that some smokers should be more considerate - especially smoking near pregnant women etc but to whinge about outdoor smoke, and getting it caught in your hair, is something that cant be controlled - like farting. You cant control someone's right to fart, and where the smell whiffs to, can you?

And yes, some farts are just as lethal as cigg smoke. The only way to eradicate this problem is to ban tobacco altogether, and I really dont see that happening.

I think it's only a question of time until they stop smoking in stations here. They have already stopped it in Germany.

This morning there was that terrible onion smell in the Intercity all the way from Zurich to Berne. Maybe I should start my own whining thread.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

I finally got the hint, recognised the endless negative progression of the popularity of smokers, was savaged with a vicious plethora of insults by a militant little woman in Yosemite national park for daring to smoke a cigarette in such fresh air and gave up in '07. I figure that after a bit more time it will be about as socially acceptable as public masturbation - at least in the non-Swiss parts of the western world.

As a former smoker I sympathise with the feelings of persecution smokers feel. But really, if they can't take the hint or summon the will-power I would greatly appreciate them at least refraining from striking up on a busy railway platform at some god-foresaken hour of a Monday morning when it is still dark and minus temperatures. Just not a healthy way for anyone to start the day.

NOOOOOOOO! I thought you were perfect! And there is the horrible truth, you are a smoker!

I choose the farting anytime! Fart is healthy, it let the bad stuff going out!

Free the Fart!

Whatever happened to live and let live?
I think that died with having ashes routinely blown into my baby's face, every single time I was waiting for a train with a buggy. I don't get people who light up 2inches from an infant, who sat next to me on the bench when I was preggo and light up, who come to the playground (!) and smoke while kids play a foot from them. Degu. It did teach me to speed up my local lingo acquisition, having to bitch out smokers from the baby playgrounds. Yes, it is in the open air, no, no smoking should be happening there. It's for kids to play in, not inhale your nastiness and have smog and tar in their hair, on their skin and clothes.

Train platform, same thing. If you can't walk away a few meters on the side of the station, don't smoke. Why would people who have to stand there, waiting for their train, why would they have to walk away from somebody who is hooked on their bad habit. As it is, people have to avoid smokers on the platform, should be the other way round. Poluters.

(Sorry, summerrain, haha, you musician, so you don't count...)

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

I lived in California before coming here and there smoking in a public places has been banned since 1990. That is over 20 years. Therefore, I am frustrated by the ignorance of some people here and sidestream smoke that affects others. I do think smokers should have the right to smoke, just not in public places where it can affect non-smokers, besides myself children and babies. I hope this country follows Germany soon.

That made me chuckle...

Smoking will die out when it stops being so cool. It's happening, slowly, but it is...I realized how very uncool it was when I was playing, a cig in the corner of my mouth, like a real rockandroller, not only I couldn't see a thing through the smoke, my eyes were tearing like mad and I almost lit my hair on fire.

Re: Smoking on the train platforms.uughh

Aren't there indoor smoking lounges at the train stations! I thought that non smoking legistlations have been put in place since May 2010, no?

I really hate inhaling this stinking smoke especially on winter mornings, being a passive smoker is not my choice.

As I look through the windows in my workplace the chimneys are puffing smoke in nearby houses and the grey cloud is forming slowly. Now I can imagine this poisonous deposit in my lungs. Truly awful!
