short haul, not much with the service that can go wrong, 1 walk through with a manky sandwich and give some drinks. 1 - 1.5 hours later the next self loading freight comes on after the cleaning company has been through.
long haul the trolly dollies need to work more attending the needs of the pax, come round offering water or a regular basis, not just twice, and then getting stroppy when people ask for more water. coming when the call button is pressed and not ignoring/cancelling it . making sure the toilets are clean and tidy, and at least someone on the flight knowing how to reset a seat when it fails.. basic items that make up the "service".
This includes having enough meals for everyone on board not getting to the end and saying, well sorry we dont have enough meals, i can offer you some peanuts.......
i fly swiss business long haul quite often and the service is ok, but could be far better when compared to the asian airlines.
its all down to personal preference, some are happy with sit down and dont expect a lot , some are not.

| | Re: Swiss [the Airline] charging structure is bonkers! | Quote: | | | | | i find swiss absolutely brilliant. i fly frequently basel-hamburg and im happy. how do you define service? what service does one want?
going online, top usability, booking, paying, airport, credit card quick check in. pass the sec check, on time boarding, clean seat, on time landing. a drink? ok, why not. do i really need one on a 1.5h flight? na, not really. i want nobody to speak to me but the allowence to leave my ipod on. im absorbed in my music n book. so what the f.*ck? | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | whats the difference? ok, you need meals that should be good and with the right size of portion. maybe a pillow, blanket, free drinks. and?
what is the service about people are talking of, demanding? | | | | | I'd agree with both of the above to be honest. Time was that flights were a luxury thing and a luxury service was expected and often given.
These days for a lot of people flying has become much more commonplace and for a certain few is practically a commute.
I can see that when paying over the odds for business class or even first class that you would expect a comparable improvement in the service - but even in those cases, an airline is basically just a company offering a passenger service from one place to the next. I genuinely think that some people are stuck in a mindset of flying being a luxury and accordingly have got overly high expectations.

very very true, i used to work in the airline industry and flew often, there are those that relate flying to first time flights at the start of aviation and expect blue train levels of service as if they were VIP flights, and there are those that are realistic and expect to be treated with a level of service fitting the travel class.

I like the space but I'm not crazy about how close the bed gets to the floor; I prefer BA's bed in this regard.
Here is the A330 cabin:
Swiss also describe it as a fully flat bed on their website, and having flown the A330 a number of times in business class, that's how I would classify it as well.
It's light-years ahead of their old slopey beds, that's for sure.
