On the subject of brunch etc.

When I worked for one of the large banks in London, their canteen cooked a pretty good full English breakfast. That meant we were perfectly happy to start early and have breakfast meetings. You could still get things like sausages sandwiches through to about 11.00, so a late breakfast/brunch was often the way things went.

I'm not that happy eating pasta with some overcooked meat covered in an industrial demi-glace at 11.30. IMHO this is not worth beating the crowds for.
And just a question. Was this Full English Breakfast served between 07.00 and 07.45 ?

All of my team go for lunch at 11.30.

This is too early for me . . . I'd prefer to eat at least half an hour or even better an hour later.

So, I either have to be anti-social, or feel uncomfortable and then get hungry again before I leave work.
As others have pointed out, this is hardly a social thing. The problem here is that in most work contracts it says the lunch break has to be taken between noon and 1 p.m. As everybody is thus more or less forced to take their break at the same time, all the food places will be crowded.

If I head for the cafeteria later than, say, 12:15, all the healthier sandwiches, salads etc. are long gone.

I cannot speak for the whole industry, but in quite many places, since the late 1970ies, the work-contracts mention the "Fliessende Arbeitszeit" with a fixed definite presence, usually between 09.00-11.45 and 14.00-17.00 but "open" times between 07.00-09.00 and 11.45-14.00 and 17.00-20.00 . Accordingly, many canteens fill up their shelves at around 12.45 . This at least applies to sectors like transports and export-industry (plus motor-car garages). I however have no idea about the finance/insurance-sector.

Full English was available from 7.00-10.00, we used to have meetings at 8.30. Sausage sandwiches were available all day.
