People that park where they feel like!

How often do you find someone parked on your spot marked "Privat" and not only for a few minutes, but all day if they can get away with it? Or how often do you drive into a full parking garage on a Saturday morning (not usually the wisest move, I admit) and find the last spot is not really a last spot because someone has decided to park their car in two spots (so no spot)!? How often could you not park in the blue zone because someone decided to park between two cars leaving about 2 m space either side instead of parking in such a way that another car would also be able to park? And how often have you returned to your car only to find that you can barely get into the driver's seat because the car next to yours has parked too closely...?

If you answer yes to all four of these (and probably more), you probably live in Zurich

Re: People that park where they feel like!

You should try living in France.
The country that seems totally unable to park.

I have had many instances that remind me of your post. One sticks in my mind...

I was 8 months pregnant, parked at the supermarket (in the "pregnant mothers/huge hippo-people" space = extra space around it), when I came out some idiot had parked so close and at such a stupid angle that I couldn't get into my own car.

I think they must have had some sort of emergency judging by the way they had speedily swung into the space, looked like a nice handbrake turn had landed them next to me (maybe an urgent need for Brie/Camembert?).

I actually had to try not to burst into tears and ask a stranger if they would get in and reverse my car out of my space for me. SOOOO embarrassing.

Lucky for the person who parked next to me I had beautifully timed Braxton Hicks contraction at that point, so I let it pass and then, hot footed it home. Otherwise I would have waited and given them a piece of my hormonal mind

Re: People that park where they feel like!

Probably best for you and your baby that you left - never know what type of person it would be.

Many years ago, I was indicating to turn into a parking spot and decided to wait for the car coming in the opposite direction to pass. The woman driving promptly turned straight into the spot I was going to take! She then proceeded to ignore me when I was trying to explain this to her. Needless to say I was furious! I must have looked incredibly angry as she decided to leave the shop and drive away again. A few weeks later I saw her at the border where she worked as a border/customs official. She recognised me and never ever stopped me - guilty conscience, I suppose.

Re: People that park where they feel like!

well on the other hand IF im in a almost empty parking I will double park. Why you ask....well it seems that many times the people forget how far their door opens, especially the kids. I have called out several mothers on this and all the response i have gotten was....wait till you have kids and then roll their eyes. on 2 occasions I got the Accident form out and made them fill it out to get the plastic parts repainted as the scrape left was almost to the bear metal. Just last week I got a Brand new(to me) Audi S4 with not a scratch on it and nicely black paint. 3 days later I arrive to it with the bumper hanging lose and scratched to hell. LUCKILY i had a witness to write down the plate and leave a note as the lady happily decided to leave without anything. guess whos insurance will be going up? have a police report against them, AND will have a nice fine for hit and run....

it comes from both ends end I understand why nice cars park double....IF the parking lot is not to busy. cars mean different things to different people

Re: People that park where they feel like!

Anthony, I am with you there. I get so mad when I find a new scrape on the side of my car (which I know for sure wasn't there when I entered the shop!).

Once I was sitting in my car when a daft individual pulled up badly next to me, opened her car door BANG! right into the passenger side of lovely shiny my car. I promptly turned on the engine and opened the window, asked her if she'd left a dent and she nearly jumped across the car park. I got out and inspected it and she tried to back away, lucky for her that she didn't leave a mark that time. But I was kind of hoping she had so I could get the accident papers out Served her right.

I teach my kids to be so careful opening the car doors and I always protect other peoples from that swinging bit of metal. Maybe I was brought up well, but there seem to be so many people around who don't give a second thought to these things.

Re: People that park where they feel like!

Well, I am driving an Audi because I can afford a repair if some kid scratches it in the parking lot.

And not gonna be whining about I-have-to-park-my-oh-so-expensive-carbeauty-to-2-parkplaces look everyone!

Cheapest thing a car owner can do.

Re: People that park where they feel like!

If your car is so precious, leave it at home in your garage.

People who are so useless they cannot park within the lines are annoying, but you can tolerate them - it's not entirely their fault.
People who deliberately take up two spaces are just annoying - as it is entirely their fault that they're denying another person a parking space. Oh, and if it's "almost empty", then surely the other driver would leave an empty space between your car and theirs? If not, then clearly the carpark is becoming full, and somebody may well need that space you've selfishly blocked.

Re: People that park where they feel like!

I notice that cars that seem to park selfishly eg private places when it clearly isn't their numberplate on the sign, seem to also be the cars that get keyed.

As for bumping the car next, it happens. That's what bumpers are for

Re: People that park where they feel like!

like i said before,

cars mean different things to different people. to me it means a lot.

As for the Audi comment. I work very hard (15 hour days mostly ) to be able to get what i want . I therefore want it to be in the best shape possible. (and there is resale value....) and not be fd up by some idiot who is to stupid to drive a car or park for that matter.

AND the amount of people decent enough to leave a note is very minimal

just my 2cents

That's why you have insurance - to cover you against accidents and idiots.

Unfortunately, there is no insurance against selfish people who take up two parking spaces.

An easier fix (that requires no tools) is to put a tiny pebble inside the cap ...

Re: People that park where they feel like!

Today I parked at the supermarket between two cars both of which were parked properly. My car was smack in the middle of the space. Plenty of room to get in and out without damaging anyone elses car.

When I returned a half hour later after my shopping the car that had been parked on my left was gone and replaced by another car. The new car was actually parked IN MY SPACE. With the wheels well over the line and about 1 inch from my car making it utterly impossible to even get between the two cars let alone actually open the door. I was absolutely ing furious. The thing that really got me was that on the other side of their car was the trolley park i.e. NO car parked on their left, no barrier or wall or anything. They could have parked on the line on the other side and been able to open all the doors of their car. But no - obviously parking in my space was more appealing.

I left a note - with a diagram of how to park (my German's not up to leaving insulting messages). Then I climbed into my car via the right hand door.

Some people are just twats when it comes to parking plain and simple.

I was lucky enough to watch a women driver try to park her large 4X4 into a parking space at Jelmoli one Saturday morning. I was waiting to pass as we where done shopping, mad rush was starting, therefore time to leave. Needless to say there where not a great deal of parking spaces left. Some of the parking in Jelmoli are thin in the front (wall end) getting wider as the parking gets to the ramp area. Well I could clearly see without a shadow of doubt that she was not going to fit that big sod off 4x4 in that space. But nope she decided to give it a try. Proceeded to scrape BOTH cars on either side of her on the way in. The proceeded to scrape BOTH cars on the way out. Put foot and left without leaving a note. Unbelievable! I even heard the scrapes for anyone worried she might not have realised.

My car in England (given as a gift to my mum) doesn't unlock on the passenger side, and doesn't have central locking, so I would have been pretty screwed in this situation! Rubbish parking from the other person, they should be slapped silly.
