Beat is a Swiss name and I used to pronounce it as beat like you would a drum or whatever you wanted to beat, in fact it is pronounced bayart. We live and learn.
Interestingly 'Beat' pronounced the English way is French slang for penis, and Boehner pronounced the English way is slang for erection. Of course you still get people who voluntarily refer to themselves as 'Dick', maybe the SBB poster campaign can be replaced with 'Dick' 'Beat' and 'Boehner'. Mildly amusing...

Brand names should be pronounce as they are advertised.

Why do the Swiss call poor Homer Simpson "Who mer?"

It's become a pet peeve of mine.
It bugs me too.

The reason is simple: they say it that way because that's how the folks who do the German dubbed version of the Simpsons pronounce it.*

Funny, because the standard German pronunciation of the Greek name Homer is exactly as you would expect it to be pronounced in German ('hoh-meer').

*German dubs of almost anything drive me up the f••king wall. Germany appears to have no more than 10 voice actors per sex, so they all sound the same. And they seldom succeed in finding ones that capture the characteristic sound of the original voice. (Marge Simpson's dub is, IMHO, a rare exception.)
