L.V. real or fake? Who cares? Both look tacky and convey an image of a bit of money but no class.

Of course others have a different opinion...
Interesting comment Tom.

I am curious: what constitutes tacky? The logo? Because some of their bags dont shout "LV LV LV! Look at me!!" but are simple epi leather like one of these below. You'll be hard pressed finding the logo if you pass one of these on the streets.

No - not like that. I'm not disputing that LV bags aren't tough but it's the ones with all the advertising on them that looks pretty cheap. (IMO)

Most of the big labels seem to make clothes and stuff for those that want good quality, well-made items and they also make other things for people who feel the need to want to show other people that they too are in the same crowd.

The manufacturers probably don't care either way - look what happened to Burberry sales when the Chavs decided they liked the look - they rocketed and they're still doing well and Burberry have, as a result, geared their products and marketing towards that younger crowd.

.

The status is proportionately inverse to the size of the logo on it. That's my general rule: whomever uses D&G is in the lower (quality) category as those who use Dolce&Gabbana.
Same for Donna Karan vs DKNY

but I really don't care as long as i like the look and it is reasonably priced.

Here's another example, Summerrain:

Get the coat because it fits well and is great quality:

Same manufacturer, a bit more obvious that it's Burberry than above:

Re: My fake Louis Vuitton contraband was seized at Geneva Airport's Customs

Fake or Real, who cares? Some people simply look great in any clothes they wear; whether they are from a brand, a knock-off or from a no-name discount store. Some people look not so great no matter how expensive their things are.

There is something to be said about having a luxury good at your disposal. It does elevate one's mood, at least it does mine. That elevation of mood sometimes comes across as confidence and comfort to others, sometimes not. But who cares again? As long as one is happy with it. A life being led according to other people's expectations is a pitiful one.

I think we both agree on the same thing - when not flashy, designer goods are great for quality.

The officials at the Geneva Airport care very much.

Proof is in the thread.

Good point. Whatever you choose to do, just be prepared to accept its consequences. If it's the law, then pay the fine.

Look at the size of that bleeder! I'd be hard pressed just passing one of them on the street.

Chand Hu Cho obviously works according to the standards of quality and specifications dictated to him by LV, as well as materials provided by LV, on machines paid for by LV.

If he is able to do this on his own without LV, he really ought to.
I'm sure he'd like to. But then his customers would have their bags destroyed by customs officials.

Oh, you think those can't be faked? I have heard first-hand reports of fully counterfeited top of the line Mercedes in China.

This seems to be the "discuss anything here" thread. We've had Fake LV bags, WWII tank engines, Turkish Cleaning ladies, a DB/Phos spat, designers sexuality etc etc etc.

It's just waiting for one of those new MODs to flex their muscles and find the close thread button. Actually maybe it would be a good training ground for them to delete all the off topic posts... (including this one).
I'm sure anyone who in future want's to find out about real vs fake and things being conficated isn't going to wade through 20 pages and 398 posts...

Go on you know it makes sense...

I landed in Geneva airport 2 weeks ago. I knew i will be searched at the customs, like everytime.

They found with me one small fake make-up bag from Louis Vuitton, which they confiscated. They took my passport and my "ausländerausweis" and made me sign a paper without giving me any explanation.

I asked few questions and they said, i need to give the consent, that I am ok they destroy my stuff.

Basically this trousse was an old gift from my friend.
At the same i had another 2 real Louis vuitton bag and porte-cle that the guy was examining for half an hour. I shouted at him saying, I paid more than a 1000 CHF for these 2, so you have to see it is real ones and not fake.

Anyway this is not it, today i received a post from the lawyer of Louis Vuitton asking me to pay a fine of 200 CHF, or LV will SUE ME!!!!

I was pissed off, since it is a lot of money for a 5 bucky make up bag!

I am not willing to give up and want to give that lawyer a call, to negotiate with him and tell him that it was a gift and i didnt know,it was fake and I own real stuff from LV!!

Do you think I am able to come up with something with him? Anyone been there?

Please advise me what to do, i am just so annoyed!!
When it comes to Intellectual Property Rights, enforcement varies from company to company. Frankly, I am surprised that LV is requesting Swiss Customs to enforce IPR on one small bag that you've had for a while. Normally enforcement occurs when it is a large quantity imported for commercial reasons.

I'd suggest you get your own lawyer and/or take your case to the World Customs Organisation, because this was out of the ordinary.
