The SüD-TIROL has placed Italy nicely in the Skiing business, but otherwise, this Germanic valley has remained an outsider.
Well, I'll bet it out produces Thurgau for apples, and Merano wool has no comparison!

So, last night I go to take cash out of the ATM, and my card was "eaten". I was P1$$3d... Ready to hit the bank first thing this morning. I had just used it the day before... And of course, you cannot just go get a new one...

So then I opened a letter this morning that just came in the mail yesterday... It says I have a new PIN .... And a new Card #. I am like WTF ??? The original card was good until 12/12..

So the bank can just change my card without notifying me, and having the machine just take it ? My wife went to the store yesterday afternoon, and thankfully, hers worked... She wanted to use it last night, and I was like NOOOO... It may eat that too...

So now I don`t have a card and who knows how long it will take to get a new one... Good thing I wasn`t at the store with 100sFr of groceries, or worse, out of town... SHEESH...
I just a few days ago said that I regarded bankers as arrogant, pompous, self-assuming and rightous (in their might) ! anything to add ?

Re: Damn I hate this country

I hear you. I hated everything about this place when I came here in November last year. It was of course me not wanting to be here in the first place. Here I had to go out everyday and walk my dogs in the snow or whatever, but everytime I went out to the park I would meet this older people who were very polite and nice to me and my dogs. Every time I came home with a new story someone told me about going to States and visiting this or that state, thought that was cool. Most people tried their best to speak english. Believe me, some swiss people even said they would rather live in the States than here, that made me feel good.
Still hate that they over charge for everything specially food and services.
Still some days I hate living here.
Time will tell, will I stay or will I go...

One can be technically brilliant, yet be an emotional moron. case in point:
That's why its important to be in balance with nature and most importantly with the surrounding environment. If the EF gets behind my skin badly and I have had it, I will take holidays away from it and keep myself busy. Luckily due to nature of my work it's not difficult. I don't flounce just merely catch the second wind. Then I come back impartial and well poised to deal with emotions here. Started jogging on running track lately and it feels good (it's called life) Some folks here exploit all the topics to the core until it becomes so emotional and annoying which often ends up in personal attacks. Then they get hurt and start complaining how bad the whole country and people living in it are. Such morons you can find everywhere in the world.

There are many similar complains. Simply stopped seeking treatment here and as formality treat medical aid to be pure social system contribution.
Well, but are things better elsewhere? I'm sure there are good and bad doctors here. The way I see it: if something's wrong with you, you get relatively quick access to high-tech medicine in this country. CTs and MRIs within a week's time, referral to specialists without much fuss etc. It's similar in the States - but there everything costs you an arm and a leg, whereas here most of the stuff is covered by your health insurance. In Germany, having to wait 3-4 weeks for a CT is not unusual.

From Swiss people who use it to describe second class people, maybe, or from the fact that we have to have Auslanderausweises, or to describe the (un)healthy level of xenophobia/racism in CH?

Sorry if this is news for you, but as foreigners dealing with the Fremdenpolizei or border police - something most Swiss, I guess, don't have to do - we can get to see the nasty side of this country in a different way to the locals, not to mention the ever-regular bulletins from the SVP.

For heaven's sake, even the Swiss comment on the fact that if your Heimatort isn't "here" then you are a foreigner. I guess at least that makes it somewhat equally discriminatory...

PS: it's not just the "anglos" who see this. Indeed, if you are northern white European, you're unlikely to see it much... HTH

I would add, that I don't think I've ever heard a Swiss person use this as a positive comment, and most expats use it as a "badge of honour" of sorts.
A) Just to give you an update, the "Fremdenpolizei" no longer exists. It now is the "Migrationsamt" !

B) there never was a border police. There always was and still is the Grenzwacht-Corps
http://www.ezv.admin.ch/ezv/00434/01...x.html?lang=de
with Grenzwächter "watching you" . Their Corps of course is part of the Federal Finance Ministry and is not part of the police-forces (which are Cantonal and not Federal)

Re: Damn I hate this country

Ok, I will stand corrected. The specialized surgery (my wife had one) by appointment (also subject to waiting some time) was excellent and very professional. Unfortunately cannot say same thing about one emergency visit when I came down with flu and some other folks in similar shoes had just as bad experience with emergency. I guess it makes sense to plan when you get sick so that the doctors may know in advance

Just an example: gastric virus quite common in South Africa in winter season so once I had contracted it and managed to climb up the car to drive down to nearby centre. At emergency unit, quick explanation of symptoms and tests done, connected to the drip for few minutes to replenish minerals and further medicine administered. All within few quarters of an hour finished and klaar.
Here waiting and waiting, doctor not sure what to do and didn't get any medicine. Bummer!

that it's people eat crap food, and that it's culture is worthless, etc.

I don't know about Swiss culture but so far the best meals I have had in Switzerland have been at restaurants that serve Swiss food. Hot meals, lots of creamy veggies and no attitude! Yumm!

I often do overnight trips to Alto-Adige or Val Gardena. Ok, they are rough, 10 passes or so (and I always figure 1 hour/pass, even when on my fastest bike, doesn't change much), so 500km or so.

My nephew from Vermont has come over a few times, I lend him one of my bikes. Last time he was quite surprised that we spoke German in Italy (just past Merano, heading up the Jaufenpass), and that the pasta was crap!

Another time, I met up with a friend from Texas in Ortisei, then we rode over to Cortina d'Ampezzo. When we stopped for lunch, first thing I did was ask the waiter what language he spoke. He said 'Italian'.

My friend asked why I'd ask someone in Italy what language they spoke. I responded "well, when I stopped for gas in Ortesei and asked the same, the guy said 'Ladino, but German is OK' (can't recall if he said it in German or Ladino, Ladino is similar to Rumantsch)

Anyway, I try and adapt to wherever I am, and speak whatever they want to speak.

Not too much to ask.

Tom
"Ladin" possibly is close to Rumantsch Ladin the Romansh of the Engiadina which in reality is the one of the three Romansh variants closest to Ticinesi Italian

Moderators aren't allowed to have opinions now?

Some of you need to get your head out of your arses
There are 20 pages of bashing of the Swiss then as soon as a Swiss has an objection, here we go, the Swiss do not have a sense of humor and are stuck up.
The fact that several Swiss people all of a sudden started complaining about the situation is not random. My link to Switzerland is pretty tenuous yet it still bugs me. Enough is enough.

Of course mods can express their opinions but they also set the boundaries and the tone on a forum.

Re: Damn I hate this country

hello. if you don't like it here then just leave, there is enough people in CH, there always will be some one else waiting to take your place. go some where where the public transport does not work as gud as it does here, go somewhere where where the garbage is laying around, go work somewhere where you can get fired the next day, go somewhere where taxes are higher, etc. maybe you should feel how actually it can be better here, then somewhere else in the world, and appreciate for what you do have, maybe you should go to romainia, or bulagaria or something like it, maybe you will give it a second thought.
if you can't, then just leave, and find a better place that suites u!!!

1) thanks I know. I had to deal with both the FD and now have to deal with MS regularly.

2) when I said border police, did you struggle to understand whom I meant? No? Thought not.

Well, within those 20 pages, there has been a lot of us who have been defending the Swiss. I like in particular two posts. Odile thought it was incredibly ironic that some born-in-UK Brits would not accept her as a nationalised Brit. So then why is it any more strange about the reaction of the Swiss to foreigners? DB's post mentioned that the UK has areas in the country just like CH where it is less than accommodating to foreigners.

I think the Brits might be more understanding with these posts. Now if we can only convince the Americans, Canadians, Australians, ...

Isn't that somewhat missing the point though? The complaints corner is not really about reasoned arguments and discussions.

If truth be known more people probably like it than don't, but in life you always hear more from the dissafected folk than the quietly contented.

Re: Damn I hate this country

The quietly contented have peace at mind, and have for no reason what so ever to complain, "poor me i need some attention", as they are enjoying life to its fullest. as well, able to accept when something has gone wrong.

god grant me the serenity to accept the things i can not change, courage to change the things i can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

so try and understand what you can do, to make the world a better place instead of complaining, complaining is easier then telling some one what they did good.

think of one good thing you can tell some one today, and you will receive a nice smile in return.

Seriously - as a Swiss, reading this thread is like a slap in the face. I was expecting to see a lot of bashing the OP after his initial comment, instead most of the posters seem to be chiming right in.

Perhaps our immigration laws aren't tough enough, after all.

To the OP and all the others who think life and the people here are s**t:

PACK THE F**K UP AND LEAVE.
=> Foreign bashing forum....seriously gtfo of the forum...what the fxxk do you know about a slap in the face, I have been working here for more than 10 years and I all hear from swiss is how fxxking useless and criminal foreigners are, but if you say ONE negative thing about swiss stuff you cry like little babies...

Re: Damn I hate this country

hey man, you are in a foreign country, no matter how long you have been here. The swiss have the right to complain in their own country, foreigners dont.

same if you have a wife, you can complain bout her, bout if some one else does, you will bash them in them head.

and if you say that's wrong, then i don't know what planet you come from

pack up and leave, get the fxxx out, but i know why your here, cos the money is better then in your home country of origin.
